Copied and pasted from the BBC...

Raheem Sterling's Chelsea future wasn't really in doubt until an hour before kick-off for the Blues' opener against Manchester City on Sunday.

His omission from the squad followed by a statement from Sterling's representatives seeking "clarity" about his role at the club suggests he may seek an exit.

At just 29, the former Liverpool forward would surely be a wanted man? West Ham and Crystal Palace have already been linked with a potential move.

He has made 81 appearances for Chelsea since joining from Manchester City for £50m in July 2022.

A loan deal for us could work?

We could only take him if Chelsea picks up a bunch of his salary. Plus, how much would we reasonably offer? Chelsea would almost definitely take a hit on the 50 million they paid for him (by not receiving even close to that and having to forward for FFP purposes whatever percentage they deferred).

Chelsea have dug their own grave with ridiculous decisions like this.

Chelsea have two options, loan him out to someone like us and we pay only a percentage of his salary, or hope the Saudis come in with a stupid offer.

For me personally i just can't see us making a move for him. Goes against our transfer policy and as you say his wages are more than double what we have paid anybody previously. If we do go for him i feel it'll be a bit of a last minute panic loan move to fill the void that we will have left by not recruiting properly this summer.

FourFourTwo reporting us and Spammers have expressed an interest.

This has a move to West Ham written all over it.

I hope our interest is limited to pushing the price up for the barrow boys.

can't see it happening and doubt he's be interested inmoving even if we could agree a deal.

Not only does he look a spent force but he is on £300k a week so even if we offered say £150k a week Chelsea would expect a loan fee too, making him a very expensive option.

We should be trying our hardest to get him on a years loan, there is no way we could buy a play of his quality, even if we paid him 200k of his wages a year and 10m fee, sales of Ayew, Schlupp, Ahamada, Johnstone, we sold a couple of them and the 10m fee is paid, and a couple of them are on 50k a week, so we halve the 200k straight away.

And you the one most moaning about our lack of ambition, and you think not going for a top class player for a years loan is wrong, we will never get a chance to purchase a player of his Quality, how is almost guarreteed 15+ goals, who could take us into the top 6, but dont worry we have Ayew and Edouard, he might not want to come, or he might relish the challenge of rubbing Chelsea's nose in it.

Signing a troublesome Chelsea reject is not ambition. It would be foolhardy.

His wages are ridiculous. He can't dribble, and he does nothing of any consequence of outside the box. He was even dropped by Southgate. If he ever was a quality player, that is in the past.
No, I don't want him at this club.

hmmmmm

You could probably make a dead cat look good in a selective show reel.

My son is a Chelsea fan, and he can't wait to get rid of him. I trust his judgement on football... Other than supporting Chelsea.

He’s a big time Charlie who thinks he’s bigger than the club. First sign of having to actually work to get back into contention and he’s publicly whinging, through his team, he could’ve just had a private little chat with the manager.
We’ve been stung by one lazy expensive big shot in recent years, I’d assume that’s why you’re getting a big ‘NO’ from some, we don’t want another one

I know you said 'almost' but he hasn't scored 15 goals in any of the last 4 seasons, 2 of which were with Man City where he got loads of tap ins.

For Chelsea he has scored 6 and 8 goals in the last 2 seasons so i think expecting him to even score double figures is ambitious. As i said earlier he appears to be a fading talent.
