Rachel Reeves

What on earth have we done to deserve these two absolutely useless, inadequate politicians, led by a donkey!!

It makes me shudder Jacey.

What Rayner proposes with this new Employment Rights thing will make it well nigh impossible for employers to get rid of lazy, no good employees at the expense of their business. It was hard enough before, with all the verbal warnings and written warnings building to a dismissal. I can see an increase in unfair dismissal cases appearing in the news.

Those who remember the 70s will not be surprised at this. Wait until the Unions get back the power they had then. Those too young to remember and voted Labour may be in for a shock.
Rayner “ darling of the Unions” welcome Angela Rayner PM 🤦‍♂️

and millions just refusing to work

Re New Employee Rights....UK will become much the same as France.

My last job in Banking, we had a European Strategy in which we always excluded Paris as it was impossible to get anything done there. Largely down to their employment laws.

Still, together with the NI hike and the minimum wage increase, unemployment will rise because Business will not pick up the bill for this triple whammy.

The projected tax receipts in RFA first budget already way off, by the end of the parliament we .
will be totally screwed

The fictional 25bn black hole will be replaced by a bigger real one

Surprising what a 1.2% increase in N.I. can do,if that capsizes a business then it was on its last legs anyway, it needed the assisted dying bill. As a senior manager with THE bank my wife often dealt with Paris and was pleasantly surprised by their English and efficiency.

The NI hike was only one of three issues that I mentioned. Talking to several SME business owners that I know, none of them feel that these policies encourage growth, quite the opposite as they are not now motivated to employ more / replace existing staff. So your comment is quite wrong in my experience.

I also often “ dealt with “ our Paris office. Nice people and their English was certainly better than my French. But that has nothing to do with the perceived restrictive employment laws which I was referring to and which had a direct impact on overall strategy.

In fairness, I believe the French work regulations started as a five hundred page book, that is now over a thousand pages long. I haven't followed it for a few years - so it could be longer.
Rayner's going to match that? I can't imagine her crayons would last long enough.

Also in fairness I said “ much like France “ not matching it !

I too worked for an international bank our French colleagues were charming and well let's just say they didn't get the American / British work ethic. They enjoyed their lunch hours and breaks and woe betide anyone who disturbed them.

I am not saying they were lazy or stupid just that the French have a work life balance that is different to ours. Maybe they are correct although it meant that we closed down our Paris office due to better productivity elsewhere.

It's why I have always been suspicious when these reports claim that French productivity is higher than the UK I can't quite believe that.

‘Rachel From Accounts’ will be cheered with these figures this morning.

Ironic that Trump’s tariffs and US businesses and consumers front loading imports have contributed to the strong quarter.

Figures are definitely good but precarious as largely boosted by exports to US ahead of tariff hikes and April employer NI increase/minimum wage rise.

But the figures produce a feeling of euphoria that will help the economy along.A bit like being a player in a winning team.

It's one of the very few good things they have done, and one of their most popular policies;

It's also a manifesto policy that they were elected on... as we know from much of the assessments of Trump on here, doing what you said you would is an admirable trait, right?
