Plight of Farmers.

The title of this thread is very misleading, taxing millionaires is preferable to taxing people with nothing.I find it hard to shed tears on behalf of millionaires hiding their money by being a farmer.Plight my aunt fanny.
What do you do once you have taxed all the millionaires? Tax those with a couple of hundred thousand?

Beak struck a chord with me. When i lived in East Sussex, there seemed to be quite a lot of farmland around, with not a lot being done with it. Occasionally bits were sold for housing, but no sign of crops or livestock.
When Brexit was being debated, the number of signs that went up on farmland for "remain" was astounding. Perchance the thought of losing those EU subsidies for doing very little. ?

One 'farmer' had a helipad installed near to his house, presumably so he could use his helicopter for those little trips to the farmers markets.? Another 'farmer' you would see now and again driving his McLaren around the country lanes.

Now, I'm sure the vast majority of farmers are hardworking, and don't make vast amounts of money. And if they do earn lots of money, they wouldn't have the time to spend it.

But there were a noticeable few 'rich' farmers who did fck all. These are obviously the rich investor types who use farming as a means to obscure their wealth from the taxman.

Is it a crime to be wealthy?

NO, my dad always wanted to pay a million pound in tax, you have to be on very big money for that. Perhaps Toddlers through no fault of their own are starving and pushed from pillar to council pillar just for a roof over their heads it is time for all fair minded people to pay a whack out of their millions. Not dodge their responsibilities.

If your house is worth £1 million, does that make you a millionaire?

You're only a millionaire if you have quick access to £1 million liquid.

No, but being taxed is not a punishment either. Paying tax contributes to the community in which you live.

The goal for the Treasury is to get as much tax as possible. However, often raising taxes brings in LESS money than before. That is one example of raising taxes being stupid.

Wow. That’s scary. Who here wants that? Certainly not seen anyone post that. I have seen many that decry the collectivisation of farming through big business takeover though, driven by market distortion caused by an unwise tax incentive to non-farmers.

You referred to the James Hutton Institute as a model for land reform. Their idea to share resources and collaborate with communities sounds a lot like collectivism to me!

My point was that we all need a roof.So a million accessible as you say is the answer.
Agreed. My point being if a farmer's house, outbuildings and land are worth say £2m and he has £1.5m in liabilities then he's not a millionaire.

The people saying farmers must pay inheritance tax because land over £1m makes them millionaires is actually a false statement.

Your left wing policies merely lead to more toddlers in such predicaments.

Do pensioners feel warmer in the Socialist Utopia?
So here we have the answer, say an old folks home has eighty residents should they individually receive the WFA ? I'm sure Truss would just print Tory money endlessly,as she did. Labour know we cannot pick cash from a tree, that is the difference that the country voted for.

One big problem is that few farmers live in farm houses, the uber rich buy up farms an inheritance tax dodge.

People had had enough of the train strikes and Labour sorted it out, that's what we voted for.I must say the tories are rotten losers and are undemocratic,no wonder they are such a small party in parliament,so few seats.

Why didn't the government set a threshold so only the "uber rich" pay the tax? Not the working class farmers.

I'd rather "uber rich" Brits who have worked hard to earn their assets, maybe over several generations, than a foreign multinational who will end up buying from the bankrupt small farmers. Wouldn't you?
