Beak struck a chord with me. When i lived in East Sussex, there seemed to be quite a lot of farmland around, with not a lot being done with it. Occasionally bits were sold for housing, but no sign of crops or livestock.
When Brexit was being debated, the number of signs that went up on farmland for "remain" was astounding. Perchance the thought of losing those EU subsidies for doing very little. ?
One 'farmer' had a helipad installed near to his house, presumably so he could use his helicopter for those little trips to the farmers markets.? Another 'farmer' you would see now and again driving his McLaren around the country lanes.
Now, I'm sure the vast majority of farmers are hardworking, and don't make vast amounts of money. And if they do earn lots of money, they wouldn't have the time to spend it.
But there were a noticeable few 'rich' farmers who did fck all. These are obviously the rich investor types who use farming as a means to obscure their wealth from the taxman.
