Ending up with barely any farmland used for farming might be one very good reason, but the government are too stupid and ideologically driven to stop, same as with hammering businesses with taxes that’ll likely be a problem for the economy and employees anyway.
They are a silver spoon industry that needs a shake up,without competition they are getting very lazy,instead of doing their job they take time out to ride around at 10 M.P.H. blocking roads.

What a stupid comment. Arable farmers have a finite amount of land. I am sure they’re very busy at times like harvests etc and you probably have no idea what it’s like waking up at 4am or whatever it is and you probably don’t even know they do either. Farmers are now getting it from all angles, including leftie government and the small amount of the population who voted for them. Meanwhile in France… farmers don’t stand for this type of thing.
They are in the pub with their Land Rover parked outside by 10:30. You are responsible for the stupid comments,I'm sure they are busy for one month a year their are feather bedded as an industry.

More stupidity. It’s a pity you can’t always be placed at the back of the queue if there’s another shortage of food, like maybe a big war caused again by the people in charge.

The Tory party was started by brewers and Farmers who granted themselves huge perks. Thatcher did not like the miners so most coal is imported why not food? Rudi Hedman I must say your posts are good for a laugh, where are you in your class at school?
Err I can think of one very good reason.
Food security.
This country needs to be able to grow it's own food in case somebody decides to cut off our imports. During both world wars we were weeks away from starvation.
I consider food security and energy security 2 of the most important and neglected issues that any UK government faces.
Still with all the farmers going out of business there will be plenty of land available for Labour to build new housing for migrants.

You are obviously unaware of the rising fuel costs and food in the UK during the war in Ukraine. Your posts are so naive it’s embarrassing for you. Where did you sit this week in school? At the front for extra help in the bottom class in the year? You’re also consumed by the politics of envy like the new left that your opinions are a mess.

You aren’t putting out any logical arguments or reasoning. Yet when you receive any you come out with this.
Any government that does not plan for the worse in regard to national security is negligent, Labour are just following the Tories in ignoring this.
During Brexit negotiations the EU made all sorts of threats about us importing food. Meanwhile Russia cut off gas to Europe and we get our oil from some of the most despicable countries in the world.
You never know what's coming around the corner which is why you plan. Besides if your are a Green growing your own food is far much better than importing it from across the world.
One final thought. The Nazi's came to power in 1932 and were gone by 1945 that's only 13 years, during which time they caused a world war which were completely unprepared for.
As I said you never know what the future holds.

The tax is when the owner dies and the business goes over to their kin to carry on the farming. Yes if they sell up and stop farming then tax away. It’s like your beneficiaries being taxed on your will to them. That is ok in your mind I guess.

I don’t know if he even knows this but it’s going to be 20% on farmers with assets of over £1million, including machinery, house, land, the lot. This will include nearly all farmers, not the minority the commie party have stated. Therefore at 20%, it’ll only take a few generations dying for there to be no land left and probably sooner for it to be loss making and be sold sooner. But this is the loony left so…

The money raised will be relatively insignificant. The negatives are obvious.
It's true that farmers pay less inheritance tax than everyone else when passing assets to their children, but the trend should be to end inheritance tax altogether rather than threatening domestic food supply.
There is no justification whatsoever for tax on wealth left to anyone's family members. That money has been taxed already. It is an attack on social mobility.
