Places....formerly important and now sadly a backwater

I was going to say that, when I was a kid a visit to see the dinasaurs was massive, I used to jump on the bus with my nan, i’m not living in the area anymore, but I’m guessing they’re not quite so popular?

And far less visitors now than previously. And off the radar for many people today. Joe Public would often struggle to find these places, on a World-map. Therefore, the thread excludes places like Pompeii & Stonehenge. Cos they are now mobbed by millions of tourists every year.

1. Chester......A Roman port city, for a while maybe even the most important port in the British isles.

2. Hattusa...........capital of the Hittite empire

3. Avignon............Papal headquarters in the 14th Century.

4. Ravenna............the Imperial Capital of Western Rome.......the city of Rome itself fell long before Rome fell.

5. Detroit......the Motor City. Formerly a boom-town. Now it makes Thornton Heath look posh.

6. Croydon Airport

what others ?
Starmer's, broken Britain.

I heard there's a new statue from the Jurassic, the Royhodgasaurus. A slow -moving large bird-like creature , with a big beak, and beautiful plumage. 🙂
