Palace v Liverpool match thread

I suggest a rule change next season (to benefit us for once) make the charity shield a four team competition; epl winners, fa cup winners, efl cup winners and charity shield holders (replaced by league runners up if needed). Semis at home grounds of epl and fa cup winners for home advantage, or maybe neutral large venue. Final at regular day of charity shield at Wembley.

Well that was another enjoyable day out😎🦅
When we went 2-1 down I said to a mate that’s not going to be the end of the scoring for them, it wasn’t looking great for us. But credit to the team for digging in and ending up the better side in the 2nd half and we were unlucky not to have pinched it without the stress of penalties

Has to be said, we looked so much better with Hughes replacing kamada and how good was Deano’s first penalty save? because it wasn’t a bad penalty, incredible save

I was thinking more this morning about the performance rather than the result. It was clear as day that the longer the match went on the more dominant Palace became. We were very strong and largely dominated the last 20 minutes and it didn’t seem to be a better fitness thing either.

We started poorly again however which seems to be a bit of a hangover from last season where we often started slow and could either be under pressure or go 1 down early. The first goal was sloppy defending from both Richards and Kamada in particular who instead of closing down just stood there and made a weak attempt at blocking it from a couple of yards away. A good comparable to that was an excellent block that Hughes made in the second half which shows how he reads danger and deals with it more effectively than Kamada.

The signs are pretty good generally and Devenny looked ok when he came on. All in all our strongest team looks very capable however we still need to start matches quicker and we need some extra bodies through the door to strengthen the squad.

So the 2025 Palace Wembley trilogy ended with another victory.

I was able to enjoy the game in a relatively relaxed manner, unlike the City final when our defence was bombarded for 80% of the game and the FA Cup was at stake.

I was impressed at how we took the game to Liverpool with their multi million pound line-up, and at times looked the better side.

And, well done Justin for keeping his head and coolly hitting home the winning penalty.

2005 has so far been a great time for being a Palace fan ( putting aside the EUFA saga)

The official enquiry doesn't agree with you ,even the Sun newspaper acknowledged they made stories up ,why are you still repeating the lies ?.
You sound very bitter and angry at an entire city .
The booing of the national anthem is an anti English thing ,they feel more Irish.
Started with the potato famine ,many came from Ireland to Liverpool.
The Thatcher years ,managed decline of the city .
Hillsborough cover up .
It's an anti establishment feeling .
Yes Heysel was on a section of Liverpool fans ,the 70 / 80 s were the bad old days for many clubs .
We probably had a firm aswell .

Beaten into submission.

I’m not ‘repeating the lies’, these things ALL happened as I have no reason to doubt the accounts of SO many from that day. They are world renowned for it, they did it the year before in the VERY same fixture, just without the catastrophic consequences! They have some sick sort of pride about being able to get in without tickets, even to this day they gloat about being able to get in at ANY cost.

I also can’t twist, distort or erase my own experiences of them at the many football matches I’ve been to or worked at involving them. Or from being abused and goaded by their scummy supporters as a young man as I parked my car pre-match near Villa Park in 1990, then being spat on through the central dividing railings by vile scouse ten year olds on the Holte End after we’d taken the lead. Or me and my mate then being set upon by the VERY same people I’d seen in the car park earlier when returning to my vehicle - all because little old Palace had beaten their team…f***ing Scum!

Through my career I’ve also been privy to more intel and information (that will never see the light of day), that simply cannot be ignored, erased or forgotten.

Neuroplasticity - how the brain adapts and is affected by everything we do, everything we see, hear or are exposed to and the things we experience. It’s a scientific fact.

Yes I am bitter and yes, with good reason! It’s not just me either, there are reasons why Liverpool / Scousers have the reputation they do and why there are such Negative stereotypes.

For me the real disgust stems from the fact that despite EVERYTHING that has happened before, they still don’t change, still do the same things and still don’t give a fcuk! And then still have the audacity to forever play the victim card!!!

Apologies if some don’t like it, that’s just how it is.

Moving on.
An interesting assessment of the match from a tactical standpoint

It is interesting.
In a sense it follows the pattern of the semi final and final too with Munoz continally the out ball down the right providing the width and often in yards of space.
You think it would be relatively straightforward to counteract this by teams doubling up on Munoz and restricting that space for him to operate.
For some reason they don't appear to, or it's more complicated than it seems.
