Palace v Ipswich Match Thread

We get level so Sage takes off Larsen, our only goal threat and Wharton our best passer.

Why?

Why did he drop Canvot? Not even on the bench.

We could have got a point, or maybe even three, but stupid substitutions cost us.

Totally unacceptable performance all round.
Indeed. Taking off a player who has just scored to bring the game level seems to me extremely inept management.

No one has more goals against than we do. We are so bad. Timber was the only one out there today who looked reasonably capable for long spells. Whatever Sage is doing it is not working. Needs to change things fast or he will be gone.

I always judge a manager by how quickly he can sort a leaky defence out!! it's apparently a lot easier than coaching a team to score.

Fulham conceding lots of goals, go to anfield and get a clean sheet.

I was at the game sitting 30 yards behind and Larsen and even Kamada were dead on their feet.
They had to do so much running as we were down to 10 men.
Wharton had one of his worst games and it was right that he came off.
Not much in the way of positives to take as we still look like a bunch of strangers with all the changes and absences.
Ipswich are not a good team, so it's a disappointing loss.
Timber showed good energy and heart, but although the defence had a game to forget the system is not helping, with the opposition giving free rein to run at them.
A 3 or 4 man midfield please.

Forgetwe were down to 10 for any excuses, we can't defend high balls in to the box and yet again 2 goals or more shipped again, this all adds up to big problems. Richards is just not good enough in for this League, he is too slow and just can't control high balls in to the box. Our best players have gone and have been replaced with either unproven players or players who no one else wanted, leaving us probably with the worst squad in the EPL. Parish hang your head in shame!

The heavy discipline concerns me.

A manager should reach his players without constantly dropping them.

Guessand, Canvot and where was Osorio today? We need these guys happy and on the field.

Also, Gozo is nowhere near Premier League standard right now. Bringing him on to replace Larsen was ridiculous in the circumstances.

Tbh JSL looked like he could barely run anymore and Wharton was well below par.

Gozo weakly losing the ball when we had possession right down there end started the passage of play which lead to their goal. Richards seemed to once again be caught underneath the flight of the ball. A killer blow after we'd scrapped our way back into the game for what would have been a well deserved point.

Negatives (unfortunately plenty)
All 3 goals looked like lapses in concentration by the defence.
Shipping goals for fun.
Disasi stupidly sent off for a challenge he didn't need to be making.
Wharton is really struggling for form.
We lost again.

Positives
Timber looked decent.
Honest Ahanor currently looks like our best defender at 18 (probably not a great reflection on everyone else)
JSL scored a decent goal.
Up until the sending off, although we'd already conceded, I actually thought our overall defensive shape was slightly better and we weren't gifting huge gaping holes through the midfield.

It's a tough loss and there's going to be a huge amount of questions asked that Sage and his team will have to find answers to. Two games before the long international break and they're going to need to show clear progress on the pitch or you do start to fear the worst.

A bad game but they happen. Always going to be staring at a defeat playing with ten. Get all the rubbish out in one game. Some positives, we always look like we can score, even JSL is scoring. There is a good team there but they are not firing on all cylinders. They will given time. Its a long season. Wharton needs to find his radar. Teams passing in general still hit and miss. Still not worried though, but then I wasnt worried that season we lost the first 7. Its early days, we will be okay. My primary interest is the other competitions. Dasasi can play in Europe and rest at the weekend while he serves his ban.

No way should he have put Gozo on for Larsen.

How organised did we look when we lost 8 and failed to win in 11 during December and January last season (including Macclesfield)?
Badly and many of us called out that Glasner was lucky to survive that. But not this absolute level of shambles and at least Glasner had some credit in the bank and had showed he could organise a team at this level.

If Khalaili had buried that sitter, just before they scored, we would of gone on to win. It's a game of fine margins. That miss has changed the whole mood.
