Palace v Ipswich Match Thread

We've never recovered from losing Guehi. Once we lost Lacroix it was game over. The 2 of them made Richards look good and allowed Munoz, Mitchell and our midfielders to make mistakes without getting punished.

These newly promoted sides that everyone was writing off are proving that all you need is a solid defence to challenge in this league.

The crowd was buzzing at 1-0, and now….atmosphere is turning and frustration setting in.

Sitting looking at the team/subs thinking - what would I do if I was the manager?!!!
I mean. Maybe not play three at the back when it has led to us conceding ten goals in three and a half games while leaving us short in midfield and not using any width to cross into a striker whose best asset is heading the ball. Just a thought mind

Needed to go 2 up when we had the chance.
Started brightly.
Lost the initiative with the sending off, and yet another game where we've conceded 2 goals (at least).
I can't see where our goals are coming from in the second half, but we sure as hell have to improve our set piece delivery.

Messing with the defence is a bad idea, but the problem is not with Sage. It's selling your best defender and replacing him with a Chelsea reject. We also have no good attacking options so Sarr and Mateta better get back on the field soon or we are done. Strand Larsen was dropped by Wolves when they were bottom. He certainly will not save us.

Wharton? Nowhere near on it. The only player who looks fully committed is Timber. The others look like they are in a bad place right now and you can't blame them.

Sage needs to sort it quickly.

This defensive malaise did not begin this season… look back at our final 6 games of last season - conceded 15 goals over those games, when Lacroix was in the team - the problem has worryingly continued. Look like the team really need the international break. At least with how they are playing not many will get called up!
Opposition attacks start with JSL’s inability to keep the ball. Weak and incompetent forward play! He was embarrassing at the World Cup and no better now.

Many were excited by the large number of signings, loans and frees, but I saw it as just padding out the squad with no obvious improvement over those who had left - many disparate players who had never met or speak the same language all guided by a new manager who started by following the previous manager's tactical configuration before opting for a similar set-up but far looser in organisation and it's no wonder the players look lost.
In this league having a solid defence is the foundation upon which a team like Palace can build. Unfortunately Sage hasn't realised this yet.

We looked okay barring no one playing to the whistle for their first goal but that challenge was needless and a red every day of the week.
A draw now would be good but Ipswich can sniff the win and may well go further ahead.
JSL is not very good at holding the ball up and we play like strangers sadly.
Not looking good

Yep. We made the squad deeper but the first eleven weaker. It’s also clear Sage doesn’t rate any of McNeil, Guessand or Osario so if he’s here that is three wasted signings.

Maybe it is because he is usually so good but Wharton having a real off day.

Could it be that he is not comfortable or clear on the role PS wants him to play?

I think so. He is clearly a deep lying play maker but his being asked to play as a box to box midfielder. He also looks like he doesn’t really know what the tactics are. Nor does anyone.

The back 3 are constantly out of position. Starting to wonder if it’s not a player thing, but a coaching thing. I don’t think guys like Richards and Canvot just suddenly forgot how to play football.
