Palace Summer 2026 transfers?

Anyone know what happened with Devenny, JRS and Esse?
I've seen no confirmation.

I don't know enough about the players bought in to evaluate the window.

If we continue with Glasner system we seem top heavy in the number 10 positions - Sarr, Pino, Osorio, Guessand,Nketiah, McNeil, Franca,Gozo.

Assuming Sarr takes the right sided number 10 role, that's a lot of competition for the left sided role .

Chilwell is an upgrade on Sosa, but for me there is still a Lacroix/Guehi shaped gap in the central defence and the jury has to be out until we see how the new players settle in.

I believe that Devenny joined Stoke for £5m
JRS - move to Charlton didn't happen - now looking at a loan to Turkey or Portugal
Esse - was having a medical at Millwall prior to signing on loan.

Like you I know little about the players brought in. But although there is now a better depth and maybe an increase in the overall quality of the squad, I'm not convinced by the strength of any starting eleven v. what we had last season.

It lacks balance in my opinion.

Yes agree except for I'm not sure PS plays to the same formation as OG at least not rigidly anyway.

Last year the main complaint was the lack of squad depth, well that’s certainly been addressed. Is the first 11 a bit weaker, probably, but it isn’t a first 11 game. If we now pick up injuries then there look like decent options and we can fill a bench without resorting to 3 keepers and 4 youth team players.
Not every signing will be a success, but some should, and for the first time in awhile I’m cautiously optimistic. Been crying out for options and now we have them.
To be honest we’ve made money and added depth to the team, could turn out to be one of the best windows we’ve had.

I'm still not clear on

Ozoh was this a sale or a loan
JRS I assume is till at the club
Esses was supposed to be signing for Millwall
Devenney was supposed to be signing for Stoke
Others?

Annoyingly the BBC Transfers list is all over the place with obvious omissions. I guess it will take them a couple to days to update it.

Verdict on the window.

Have we strengthened the squad? Yes, one of our busiest windows.

Have we strengthen the first team? I'm not sure we have.

Pros:
Added a midfielder and backup for Mitchell. The rest are unknowns for now.

Cons
We sold 2 key defenders and lost one to injury. Our two main goal scorers are unhappy and want to leave. Will they sulk or get on with it?

Conclusion:
Sage has his work cut out trying to find his best eleven and trying to get the best out of JPM and Sarr, we need their goals.

I take your point, but my view is that the ' weakness ' is in central defence. And generally speaking those players only get switched around due to injuries.

I think Ozoh is a sale

Ozoh is a permanent deal. Devenny has signed for Stoke (according to those in the know) but not confirmed yet. JRS is still with us. Esse one yet to be confirmed.

The club have already said they are looking for a loan for Franca. Portugal might be a good shout for him, given the language and the fact it's not such a physically intense league. He might do well there.

My concern is that the move to bring another forward in might suggest Sarr will end up in Turkey or Saudi Arabia. Osario looks exciting, but it's big step up from the Danish league to the Premier League.

Ozoh is permanent - confirmed on CPFC website.

Not seen anything about the others. I wonder if Devenny to Celtic is still on?

Would be my concern as well. It could just be that Desasi ends up being pretty adequate cover for Lacroix.
We had two great central defenders with Lacroix and Guehi and as happens, they get cherry picked by the big teams, we were always unlikely to sign known defenders of that quality. I'm hoping Desasi and Anhor end up being better than anticipated.

Think Mateta and Sarr will both end up playing okay. Both of them have international careers and certainly Mateta won't be picked by France if he isn't playing well. Unless either go in the next week or so to one of the unclosed windows (Saudi money) they are here to January and better crack on with it. Cant see Liverpool after Sarr again if he isn't playing and playing well.

I’m happier with the window this morning now that we have Osorio, Timber, and Chillwell. Looking through various reports a number are suggesting Osorio was a safer option than Fofana and that we may have pulled the plug on the latter because of concerns over his ankle and the “limited “ medical carried out by the Lyon medics. Apparently Dougie had Osorio on his list as a potential replacement for Olise (left footed right winger), and both Liverpool and Arsenal have tried to buy him in the past. He will be an alternative to Sarr and may encourage him to nuckle down if he wants in the team. Alternatively we may sell Sarr to the Turks now we have Osario.
We’ve also replaced and ageing, and possibly past his best, Munoz with a younger option, and Clyne with a slightly less crocked option. We’ve replaced our Mitchell backup with a much better option. In midfield we’ve added a good international box to box midfielder.
It remains to be seen what happens to our back three. We’ve certainly given Sage options although none immediately up to the standard of Lecroix. Ordóñez would have been a good option but his current foot injury meant we didn’t risk it but may return in January if we don’t settle on three from the current batch. Hopefully Sage can choose his preferred three and give them time to gel.
We’re stuck with Mateta and JSL up front but we were never going to be able to afford to replace them. A player for wide left would have been nice as we are still likely to attack more down the right side, but you can’t have everything.
Overall, given our SCR restrictions it’s been a decent enough window but one which was salvaged late in the day, but isn’t that our modus operandi?

Having slept on it my view of the window remains unchanged. We have brought in a lot of squad players. But the first team is worse So yes we have depth now which is good but do we have a first eleven capable of winning games?

We now have lots of options at the back but no clear best back three. It looks like Disasi plus names picked from a hat.

I know lots of people seem to have the narrative that Munoz had gone from the best wing back in the division to a player who could only shuffle about on his zimmer frame. That’s not what I saw at the World Cup all be it I concede he wasn’t as effective in the second half of last season. Selling him remains a big gamble in my eyes given how important he was to our system.

We now have a hugely imbalanced squad with at least 6 players whose best position in this system is on the right. Given that it makes no sense to me we spent most of the final day chasing right sided attackers. We still don’t have an obvious first choice player for the left which I find remarkable.

Some signings I like a lot. Chilwell is a very sensible bit of business. Some were out of necessity such as Disasi. Some make very little sense to me like Guessand.

All in all it feels like what it is. The culmination of another poorly planned pre and start of season that leaves us already behind the 8 ball in the league and playing catch up to better organised clubs.

Agree with this, particularly the observations on the obsession with right sided attackers.
And to compound this, in both games where left footed McNeil has featured, he played on the right!
One of the reasons I hoped that Fofana would be joining us is because he is a left sided attacker who would have provided genuine balance.

I see a padding out of the squad - first 11 hasn't really been improved, (except maybe Timber who I think could well slot in straight away) and a couple of them want away as it stands. Some of the newcomers will end up like Franca, Esse, JRS, Sosa and not really get a string of games and be left on the sidelines, others may get a chance and breakthrough. Sage will introduce players to the team, none of whom who have ever met or played together before. We're already two lost games into the season and one has to wonder when will the season actually start for Sage to become his own man, with his first choice 11? September 5th Fulham away seems a good starting point.
