Palace Summer 2026 transfers?

I can't see us spending very big this summer, not after £85m on Johnson and Larsen in January. The priority must surely be to get form and value from those two along with Pino, and Nketiah. We can't afford to see about £140m wasted, and buying more forwards to play instead of those guys will increase the chances of that happening.

Midfield seems the obvious place to upgrade, especially if Sage has any big ideas about pressing opponents as opposed to simply fouling them the second we lose possession.

Think you are right, I'm not expecting signings and I hope Sage was brought in knowing that. I have zero knowledge of him, do we know whether he's good at working with small squads, youth players etc?

I'm tempted to say that he probably is, but that's based on the economic status of French domestic football generally. Most of their clubs develop and sell and get by on smaller budgets compared to the other bigger European leagues. I doubt he's ever been given a blank cheque or told to manage a bloated squad of celebrity footballers.

Anyway, as you say, you'd think this sort of thing would come up in a job interview situation.

For me i think we need:

CD (Canvot has done well but we play with 3 in that position and we need more cover for there than we have)

RB (We really don't have cover for Munoz and last season exposed this, a position we have needed cover for several seasons)

CM (A forward thinking midfielder, like Wharton, cover for him, possibly Hackney)

CM (Hughes and Lerma are not getting any younger, Doucoure needs to be nursed back in, Kamada I think is going)

I'd agree.

I also think we could do with a left footed attacker to provide more balance.

I think Munoz could well leave this summer if a decent bid comes in... He's certainly putting himself in the shop window with his performances at the world cup.

Players I'd be happy us getting in:

Defenders:
Young Lens CB we've been linked with Guinou I think it's his name. Plays CB or RB

Acheampong - looks impressive although Chelsea say he's off limits.

Midfielders: Jordan James and Hackney to add a bit of youth and energy. Although if Kamada and Lerma leave i still think this won't leave us with enough depth unless Ozoh is going to get minutes.

Left sided attacker: Osorio, linked with him before.

If/when Mateta leaves we'll obviously need another striker. Also from what I've looked at JSL doesn't strike me as a typical Sage center forward!

I don't want to think about bids arriving for Lacroix and Wharton.

Basically we've got a lot to do if we want to remain competitive throughout the season.

I'll go against the grain and say I think JSL will come good. I think he is better (although a lt more expensive) than JPM was when he first came to us.

Hackney seems less likely. It's been reported he'd prefer Everton for some bizarre reason.

Looking at the wider transfer market and moves and impending moves, part of me thinks why just not let Man City, Arsenal and similar just have first pick and be done with it.
The rest are also rans.

Man City are buying Anderson from Forest and Arsenal want Bruno G from Newcastle, both fees in excess of £100 million.
Newcastle have already lost Isaac and Gordon and will likely lose Tonali too.

They are supposed to be a big club and yet even they will their team decimated.
What hopes are there for clubs like Palace?
A paternalistic pat on the head from the big clubs, but don’t you dare tempt to seriously challenge us.
You’re almost expected to feel gratitude that such clubs allow you to keep a Wharton or a Lacroix for one more measly season.

Yes, it’s the way of the world and we have to get in with it, but I do despair at the machinations of the modern game.
Where’s the true meritocracy in such a loaded environment?
