Pakistan v England Cricket thread

As we know the mental side of the game been a problem for a number of batsmen, Trott and Trescothick come to mind but there will be others who didn't get the opportunities to establish themselves.
It's a truism that as hard as it is getting to the top staying there is even harder.
Both were very dominate in their pomp, Trescothick far more engaging to watch but Trott produced under pressure time and again.

If I remember correctly Trescothick's late stage mental issues really affected his average of 43.79.....He was playing when he wasn't mentally able to cope. That average really dipped from what it was.....That said it hovers around the Gooch and Gower level.

England - making poor teams look good again.
They treat some away tours like try outs for new players.....I thought that was what England A was for but I'm a bit out of the loop....I use to follow England religiously until it all started to get woke about ten years ago.

Anyway England picked three new players I think and Jamie Overton...who's had one test from memory. - Jordan Cox, Dan Mousley and John Turner.

Anyway this Jordan Cox doesn't seem to be doing very well....though we all remember that Gooch started his test career with two ducks....but nevertheless he missed this opportunity.

On the positive I like the look of Dan Mousley, you can tell a lot from body language in cricket and this chap looks switched on and up for the fight.....A good sign that someone does well under pressure. There's a lot of hype about this Jacob Bethell who gets called an all rounder, but from what I've seen he looks more like a one day batsman who can fill in with spin.....But hey that's how Peterson started.

John Turner is just destined to end up playing for England......Bowlers are born more than made and he's just looks like an obvious test bowler to come.

I've always had high hopes for Jamie Overton because he's a 90+ bowler. It seems obvious to me that they are considering him for Australia as we know that they want pace over there. His career has been blighted with injuries and its never come together for him internationally. However he's 29 now and along with Carse maybe this is his time in the sun.

We are off for a short test tour in New Zealand now but in reality what we care and are preparing for is the Ashes. We want those Ashes in Australia and even though we have lost this one day knockabout in the West Indies I think we are finding out about new players and finding out who can hack it.

Presumably had some kind of last minute injury that stopped him from bowling. Just presuming as it seems silly otherwise.

He's been injured and unable to bowl for quite a while and it was just another bewildering selection choice.

What Sam Hain have to do to get picked. He is probably the premier One day and 20/20 batter in the country but doesn't get a sniff yet we pick a batsman who hadn't even played a handful of List A games who so far has repaid the selectors by failing in the West Indies

Some game going on at the moment. England have scored 650 runs and taken 10 wickets in two days.
Test cricket has changed over the years.

As long as they don't use it as an excuse to move over to four days.

The requirement to attack the ball only suits certain batsmen and the disneyification of test cricket will end up with a skill downgrade.....I think we have already seen it.

The bean counters would happily destroy the golden goose in pursuit of their short term bonuses.

Two much time to play sports like rugby and cricket, whilst we worked in dingy factories and ate only beans on toast, but we were happy.

Indeed, all these whiners telling us that we have no culture need to be made to eat beans on toast for a month.

By the end of that they will be reading Lord of the Rings and singing the national anthem.....aside from that they will also be extremely windy but we can't have everything.

Root, on 98 not out, plays the ramp shot over the wicketkeepers' head to reach his century.

Can you imagine the members reaction in the past? Probably a summons to the committee and a dressing down.

It's just not cricket old boy.....

👍

It's cricket Jim but not as we know it. The applause from Sir Geoff's house would have been severely muted.

I'd have paid good money to watch Sir Geoffery play the ramp shot.

That reminds me of Malcolm McDonald scoring six goals, against Malta at wembley, our Geoff scored five in the ninety minutes (that is from memory) that sums up Geoff in a nutshell,A phsychologist Dr. Clare who built his career on the premise that no man is an island Interviewed Geoff and ended up in tears.
