He would have had a pay bump and could have done like Olise put in release clause.
Yes it's a business but these people need to show some respect Palace has given him a chance and made him what he is otherwise he most likely would have been another Chelsea player left to rot.
Adding 1 year extension that is all agents dont control players they still have final say.
If he does go for free that is bad business from the club when twice they had chance to get around 70m for him.
He could have had an immediate pay bump, but he decided not to - release clauses don't guarantee anything, as we're seeing with Eze at the moment.
As it stands, Guehi will get a considerably bigger pay bump next year when he signs somewhere as a free agent.
He's shown nothing but respect for Palace, but I don't think 'respect' extends to signing a contract you don't want to sign. With Guehi's talent, I don't think there was ever a risk he'd rot anywhere, and if it wasn't us, he would've got plenty of chances elsewhere.
We don't know what offers have been made - £70m could be pure fantasy for all we know and Newcastle were actually trying to get a deal done for way less than that. Aren't you always going on about how unreliable these sort of stories are?
Secondly, we just won our first ever major trophy, and Guehi was a major part of that - I'm sure neither he, nor anyone at the club, regrets turning down whatever offer was made last summer.
I agree it's bad business from the club to let him go for free, but as you said, the club made the decision to turn down offers last year - that has nothing to do with Guehi. He may well have signed for Newcastle if the club accepted an offer.
To suggest he's shown his 'true colours' and is 'disgusting' is childish nonsense.
