Ousmane Diomande

As I recall, an Athletic article earlier in the window suggested we have the best part of £100m to play with. Add to that what we'll get for Guehi and we will still have funds for other players.

It's not just a question of the fee but also the length of contract. If we have signed Diomande for 5 years that will hit us for £9.4m for this new year. We will also have to remember our yearly amounts for the players already on our books

With our cup win ,the promise of European football, Woody, Guehi, going, we might finally be capable of doing a deal this expensive.
But we have been here before. Where it turned out that rumour said we wanted a player well outside our price range, only for a wealthy club to complete a deal.
It felt like we were used, probably we was.

We are now bigger with higher pedigree.

Does that mean we still get used but with higher ranking players?

Translation problems? Or Portuguese media is as reliable as ours. Two reports, both from today.

According to Portuguese outlet Record, Palace have ‘given up’ on trying to sign Diomande and ‘an offer did not even emerge’. The Eagles were said to be willing to pay around £25 million.

A Bola in Portugal report that Palace and Sporting have agreed a £47m fee for the defender ahead of a proposed move to Selhurst Park.
