Ousmane Diomande

I think we have moved ahead of West Ham in the pecking order. They play terrible football and their current manager is on the clock, if their poor form continues he will go gone.

As long as we can agree a transfer fee with the club why would he want to go there.

But if Guehi decides to stay are we going to spew so much of our budget on him?

Dunno.

However , ast season our defence was so thin we had to play Lerma and in extremis a barely recovered Ward to cover gaps. Riad sorely missed.

The pressure would be greater with the increased games.

Also, it would make a pretty good defence (albeit a scary wage bill)

Fair comment however we don't know the clubs attitude.

1. The club know that Guehi is going to go sooner or later so want a fee. They know that Guehi wants to play in the World Cup by signing his replacement now Guehi may be motivated to move or risk becoming a sub at Palace.

2. The club have accepted the situation with Guehi (he will move when he wants to) and his replacement is available so buy him now before someone else grabs him. If that means we have both for one season the club can live with that.

I was thinking ‘fair point’ in football terms, but West Ham do tend to throw a lot of money around, and as we all know money talks.
It’s amazing how much money they do spend to still be average at best

They currently have no money and are looking to sell before they buy, apparently.

Fans unhappy, but that's basically permanent.

Good points.

My view is he has been absolutely outstanding for us. We got him for a very very good price. If he wants to see out his contract I say let him. If and it’s a big if we get the new signing and OG likes the look of him and Guehi won’t sign an extension with a buy out clause like Olise did then he will have to take his chances with getting in the team as OG may want the new back line to play as much as possible to build the unit. That said OG will want his very best team out there especially in the Europa league as we have a very good chance of winning that and let’s face it, if we won that, we would unbelievably be in the champions league 😳 and would Guehi still want to leave? If he does then Steve P shakes his hand and says thanks very much for being our most successful captain ever. Guehi has every reason to stay another year.

I can actually see more and more players doing this and getting there big payout when there contract expires.

Can't be long before the clubs start challenging this ruling though. The big clubs have an asset worth £100m one season and nothing two years later? They won't put up with that forever.

Problematic, as you can't be a slave to one employer. Realistically, due to the ruling, transfer fees should have been drastically reduced. Unfortunately, the Premier League has continued to push fees up - along with a couple of mega rich clubs. And now the Saudis - so it won't be ending.

That's true but originally the rule was to stop clubs retaining players' registrations rather than millionaires renegotiating a three year contract after a year and threatening to leave on a free if they don't get it.

With Americans taking a bigger share of ownership in the Premier League, I have no doubt they will be looking at introducing a Collective Bargaining Agreement, allowing them to trade players willy-nilly, and no relegation but that is a long way from it happening

No relegation you say? I'm listening!

Imagine a wage cap like in North American sports though!

What I would add to my original post, if Guehi won’t sign an extension to cover us (we could even set a low buy out of say £50 million which would not put off any of the bigger clubs he would be interested in and if it did why would he want to play for that club?) then I would 100% strip him of the captaincy as it should be an honour and not to be bestowed upon somebody waiting to leave.

Get a life, he's been great for us, may I say silly comment

I dont think I'd strip him of the captaincy, that feels like petty behaviour that isn't going to end well.

But I would as you said try and make a reasonable deal with him.

e.g. if you are going to go, we need you to go in the first half of the window for upwards of £65m

If that date passes, be a gent and sign a 2 year contract (we'll all be in the same place next summer) but with a release clause of £50m that is active in the first half of next summers' window.

Hopefully win win. We get Marc to lead us into Europe. He gets the game time to cement his England place.

When a player runs down his contract, he can negotiate a huge salary. That release clause of £50….. if his contract expires, goes straight into his salary and signing on fee. Makes no sense for Marc to sign a new contract…. Even though I really really want him too. Unless of course Palace decided to pay him his market value. But the last time I suggested palace did this I got shot down in flames and accused of wanting palace to go bust

This was the only point I was making. Do us a turn and sign an extension so we don’t get our pants pulled down. We offer not to stand in his way next year after he’s played in the World Cup and taken us to victory in the europa league.

If he won’t do that how does he stay captain? It’s not exactly looking out for us is it so why keep the honour with him, instead play him but pass the arm band to somebody commited. I was at no point questioning how good he is or has been for us, one of the best players we have ever had.

Assuming he would give of his best, which I am sure he would, and him being current captain, it woiuld make no sense from a football view to make someone else captain.
