Nottingham Forest vs. Crystal Palace match thread

Let's start with the positives.
A point away at a ground we never win at.
No Wharton and no striker.
9 pts clear of 18th.
Now come the negatives. I bet if someone who have never seen Palace play before saw that performance they would think the players had only just met.
I refuse to accept professional footballers not being able to run around and actually pass to a team mate. My goodness Pino is fast becoming someone I can't stand to see on the teamsheet. The only time he made an effort was to get a yellow for silly incident. He cannot pass to any team mate it's just borderline pathetic.
No wonder we are seeing this, with no Wharton, no striker today and a manager that clearly has lost his mojo to affect the team.
I switched over to the Man Utd game and instantly saw both teams running and passing it with speed. When switching back I thought I was watching walking football.
I feel for the fans who went today. We had a golden opportunity presented to us and to see that pathetic second half must be so hard to accept.

We proved today, we we’re just as impotent against 10 men.

We have Pino who makes bad decisions and can’t weight a pass. Sarr and Munoz were also poor today with weight, crosses and passes. Mitchell continued to have a bad crossing day. He reaches a point early in a game where his confidence with the cross is already so low he goes instead for the angled pass.

Hughes has reached a low point where we can confidently say his shooting is even worse than Mitchell’s crossing. Richards may be ok at back but is another nightmare around the box. Always looking to shirk responsibility and pass the ball like a hot cake to someone else.

We have no one to aim at in the box or make runs into it.

The whole team just looks dire and in many ways it will be a bullet dodged and a bit of a fluke if we escape relegation.

Glasner saying Mateta isn’t in the right place right now, I don’t think Glasner is either himself. He’s done well for us, but he’s bringing us down. He will make excuses after the game about players etc… but he’s had players he could try work with JRS, Franca, esse. And he’s binned them off without trying and yes they ain’t great but ain’t a manager someone that can compromise??
Tactically he’s not up to it and today has shown fully. Parish has got the backbone of a jellyfish as he should have shown him the door weeks ago.
As a team I can’t see the suffering stopping for now

Well yes. I was thinking, when Glasner told Parish he wasn't going to renew his contract, what did Parish think at the time? "Thanks mate for giving me advance warning" or "That's a bit snide, I'm going to have to find a legit reason to sack you, I've got to be smart about it though" or "Well ok, whatever happens you're here till the end of the season, we can't possibly get in trouble and I'll think about it in July"...
We had Glasner lined up for the job six months beforehand, so I wouldn't be surprised if Parish has done the same.
I'd put money down that we've had a manager in agreement since December.

It's hard to play against ten men, you are expected to make the running, they are free to sit deep. It's hard for us to have more possession. We aren't set up for it, and prefer to play on the break if we can. A good few of our players aren't much threat without space to run into. That's at the best of times.

More to the point, today came at a time when we have been abject with the ball in the attacking third for months. We haven't found a combination that creates anything at all. Not even one that creates space for others by moving in sync. There seems no relationship between our midfield and forwards. It's all static, improvised, rushed, and reliant on the outside chance of individual inspiration. Whichever forward line Glasner goes for, they look like strangers to eachother.

The hope must be that at least one of Pino or Johnson hits lift off next season after a big tactical reset under a new manager. Nketiah too. I could imagine the Bournemouth manager getting something out of them, though he might be out of our reach. Even if he's not, by the time he gets here those players might be in such a deep rut that he'll need a magic wand more than time on the training ground.

I uttered before the game that I was would be content with a point.
In the second half we moved the ball far too slowly, our distribution from wide areas was pitiful and the substitute goalkeeper never had a shot to save.
When one considers the 'Bigger picture' in terms of the table, it was a useful point.
Brighton Burnley and Wolves on the immediate horizon I'll be happy if we've gone up a place or two by the end of the month.

We need to start planning for life in the Championship, especially with the cost commitments related the new stand in mind.

Our attack is the worst we have had for 25 - 30 years, and I do not think we can expect to score more than 5 goals and get more than 3 - 4 point in the rest of the season. Which will take us down.

As horrible as this may seem, it's better to be prepared.

Seems players are lacking confidence and have a very cautious approach. The passing and movement was slower the a glacier.
Need to get OG out now as he is effecting the players who need a fresh face and a uplift

Eh? Riad played in the back three. He was replaced with Uche and Palace went to a back four. Or that's what I saw (I was pretty antsy, so maybe Lerma did drop back?)
I think when the Uche/Riad sub was made we did go to a back 4. We looked equally bad for about 15 mins and Forest were able to have a decent spell of pressure. We then shifted back to a back 3 with Lerma playing on the left with Pino dropping deeper into midfield. That's why Pino was able to get onto the ball a bit more, so that he was then able to give away possession at the first attempt when making a pass.

Yes Glasner needs to go. He’s proved to be a snake in the grass and I question his character.

Not a great performance, but when you have a CM of Hughes and Lerma, you are not going to get a load of insightful passing. They are solid squad players but we'll never progress with them in the team.

Johnson and Sarr need space in behind, so the low block essentially nullifies their threat.

Pino, predictably getting loads of stick, and he did misplace a bunch of passes, but he was working hard to get on the ball and try and make things happen. I suspect he had triple the touches of any of the other attackers. I do wish fans could appreciate that he was the the only player trying to force thing, instead of looking at exclusively the bad stuff and writing him off.

Wharton and hopefully Kamada back next week. We'll start to get some rhythm back. I'll keep banging the Kamada drum, but we've been terrible without him.
