The Metropolitan Police confirmed a total of 560 arrests, 18 sexual offences, and two knife stabbings over the main two days of the 2026 Notting Hill Carnival.
The Metropolitan Police released data detailing the specific outcomes of the weekend’s safety operations:Total Arrests: 560 overall, with 423 recorded by Monday evening (200 on Sunday and 223 on Monday) and the remaining 137 finalized as the event closed.Stabbings: Two recorded knife incidents (one on Powis Terrace and one on Oxford Gardens). Both resulted in non-life-threatening slash wounds to the leg and hand.Sexual Offences: 18 total arrests recorded for sexual assault and related offences.Assaults on Police: 32 arrests for physical assaults targeting emergency workers.Weapons Violations: 46 arrests for possession of an offensive weapon within or near the carnival footprint.Drug Offences: 146 total arrests, including 70 for cannabis possession, 32 for Class A possession, and 44 for drug supply.Intelligence and Technology MeasuresScotland Yard expanded its use of controversial Live Facial Recognition (LFR) cameras stationed on the event approaches. The system was credited with:Securing at least 52 direct arrests over the two days.Identifying 26 registered sex offenders on Sunday alone to check their compliance.Triggering three arrests for sex offenders breaching their active license conditions.A significant portion of the security work also occurred before the event started. In a pre-carnival crackdown, the Met arrested over 100 people and seized 11 firearms, 76 zombie knives, and more than 40 other knives to prevent high-risk individuals from entering the area.
