No Atmosphere, No Energy

Dunno what's going on behind the scenes, but it ain't a fun watch at the moment.

Was in Leipzig at the end of 60 years of ups and downs, and, like others, was full of optimism despite Ollie's impending departure, but not sure now if I'm looking forward to my next live game v Real Sociedad in a few weeks time. (I've lived in Portugal since 1994 - not easy to get to Selhurst, but thank God for the Internet).

In my humble opinion, the most serious error was ditching the red and blue shirt for a namby pamby retro kit.

Here in Portugal, Sporting have taken to ditching their traditional Celtic-like kit for a pink one. They keep getting beat.

Coincidence?

Didint alex ferguson once ban an away kit man United kept getting beaten in? And once went as far as getting the team to change the kit at half time when they were loosing?

I said this to on another post. Don't suit white at home anymore. I was to young to remember it being the norm.

Agree the 2 years before we came up and first 2 years were deafening. Then it was always better than most grounds.
The best atmospheres are usually at the clubs that have just been promoted, they’ve got good momentum from seeing a load of wins/goals the season before and are buzzing for the premier league.

Disagree. It was brilliant the first few years. Now we’ve stayed up so long the boredom of finishing 15th has set in. Going to the games now is a chore. No atmosphere, a poor team and they’ve even knocked down the Stephenson Lounge in the vague hope of building a new stand.

And it’s a hostile atmosphere generated by their passion, not the manufactured noise from the HF
Which is what we've never had. Our atmosphere was poor before them and will be poor after. Personally i found them a bit cringe, you either like them or you don't, but you can't deny that they gave us a unique atmosphere. Copied from Europe, of course, but completely unique to any other fans in this country.

Agree with most of what you say. The monotonous drum etc isn’t an atmosphere for me.

I disagree about Wembley/Leipzig, we don’t need any group to create noise at games like that.

I went to all the European aways last year, atmosphere was always good and hardly even saw them. In fact they seemed to stayed away from where the Palace majority of Palace fans were drinking

But that’s MY point, it’s just fake noise then not atmosphere, that constant beat of the drum when the teams struggling is just irritating
When we see examples of how great the HF are/were online, it’s always clips from Liepzig or Wembley or the tifo’s before games, yes that’s when they’re good, but for the average league game when the teams struggling they do nothing for the atmosphere, it’s just noise coming from the other end(I sit in the Whitehorse)
As I said they can be excellent, but I'm not having that anything they do when the teams struggling helps the teams performance or helps any lack of atmosphere caused by the teams poor performance, only the team going forward, playing well and in a winning position changes that

Yeah what we needed in the summer was the lower holmesdale and arthur made into safe standing and a real focus on getting youth into the ground. Something all fans could get behind.

Instead they did it for the away end whilst maintaining their focus on the corporate bodge stand.

Ive not missed a european away match either, Besiktas was absolutely incredible in terms of passion and support for their team. We are miles from that although i can understand what the HF were trying to create at Selhurst. Its a shame they gave up though.

He did. They were losing at Southampton and he claimed their players couldn't see each other properly because the kit didn't show up against the crowd. Or something.
Yeah it was a grey kit in a game they conceded 6 times in. It was the week after they got beaten 5-0 away at Newcastle.

I used to look out for Man Utd results in the fervent hope they’d get beaten. It didn’t happen very often but as a true football fan the petty bitterness sustained me.

Question: How do you propose getting youth in the ground? I’m no longer young but my father took me to palace and then I got my son a season ticket when he was young and he’s kept that going. We go to matches together. That’s what Palace has been about - we are not glory hunters. Spoiler alert - most weeks there are spare tickets and it’s still a reasonably priced club compared to others in London. So if the youth want a ticket - they are available.

Not affordable though are they. Isnt that one of the things the protest is about, that normal fans are being priced out while the club prioritises selling £70 tickets to tourists? Its harder each year to sell your ticket if you cant go unless you have st+. £70 isnt affordable imo.

I always offer my ticket to Palace fans I know at face value (what the club offer for it) if I can’t go. If they can’t make it, I have sold it back to the club on a couple occasions. I then have a look to see what they are selling at and it’s not £70. However, I totally agree with you that all football is over priced these days but we are still cheaper than some.

Tickets 10+ years ago in the premier league were around the same price some of us forget. I have an old stub for £60 for a student ticket in the 13/14 season.

Why were there no protests then?
