No Atmosphere, No Energy

That's the point though isn't it? It's easy to sing when you're winning... But we need an improved atmosphere during the difficult times to help the team through . We have been great at this during the difficult times in our Premier League run and whether you like it or not the HF were a huge part of that.

My opinion is they're hugely missed in the current matchday experience and I'm pretty sure if you asked any Palace player they'd definitely want them back.
But that’s MY point, it’s just fake noise then not atmosphere, that constant beat of the drum when the teams struggling is just irritating
When we see examples of how great the HF are/were online, it’s always clips from Liepzig or Wembley or the tifo’s before games, yes that’s when they’re good, but for the average league game when the teams struggling they do nothing for the atmosphere, it’s just noise coming from the other end(I sit in the Whitehorse)
As I said they can be excellent, but I'm not having that anything they do when the teams struggling helps the teams performance or helps any lack of atmosphere caused by the teams poor performance, only the team going forward, playing well and in a winning position changes that

I can see how the drum would annoy people, but personally I'd rather than what we have at the moment.
I'm in the lower Hol so may have a different perspective, but its been pretty terrible so far this season

Our home form has been generally poor since promotion to the Prem.

But it should be acknowledged that managers and players alike, Palace and opposition , have appreciated an atmosphere that no longer exists at Selhurst Park.

Our identity is slowly but surely being erased by those powers that be at Palace

But it’s amazing how different you’ll feel after a couple of wins.

If the teams struggling the whole club is s***, if the team wins a few everyone loves their club again

You are of course right, but I think you're conflating slightly different things - when I say 'matchday experience', I don't just mean performances and results on the pitch; I'm well used to watching s*** football at Selhurst!

But the overall matchday at the moment is crap - Americanised guff all over the place, s*** firework displays, way out of date cheerleaders, and horrendous music drowning out any attempt at an authentic atmosphere after a goal or even after a win. The above has all contributed to the HF no longer feeling particularly wanted, which has compounded the problem and further worsened the atmosphere.

Who wants this stuff? The club say we are trying to appeal to a broader audience, but why does their experience get prioritised over match-going fans of decades?

Authenticity sells, and we are rapidly losing ours to merge with the countless other clubs serving up bland corporate s***.

I don't disagree that all of this stuff feels less important after a few wins, but I also don't think it's unfair feedback.

Why does anyone need a 'CEO for Customer Experience' (?!) to get behind the team? You just do it. It helps if the team are having a go and fighting for the result, and if you win at home more often than not (imagine) but it's not up to the club to create the atmosphere.

Regarding the HF, I don't miss the monotonous drum droning on and on in the background, with no relationship to on-field events. I tend to cheer or chant depending on what's happening. Singing songs is a strange old business. Fun to a point, but really what live football support is all about is people getting out of their seats to issue a big f***ing roar when a winger is about to take on a full back, or a midfielder makes a big tackle, or the team are building up a head of steam at one end, or throwing themselves in the way of shots at the other. I never really felt like the HF got that.

Lack of HF coinciding with teams form
Quite frankly, the biggest problem with our form is that we have sold top players and replaced them with average ones. Even with our cup winning side, we still struggled in the league and especially at home.
It only takes a drop of a few percent to go from mid table to relegation candidates. Right now we are bottom in every metric.
The 'Holmesdale Fanatics' contributed to the atmosphere but have little to do with actual results. If they actually want to try and help the team in the only way they can, they need to get over their self importance, drop all the left wing politics and do what they are best at. They were a symbol of the club's current identity. Now we have gone back to how it used to be.

Last season, all I tended to hear for the majority of the game was a guy screeching on a megaphone, the HF struggled to motivate themselves, let along the crowd or players. I thought they were better in their original location in the holmesdale before they moved.
Away from home, there was not necessarily a HF contingent but the atmosphere created by the Palace fans is normally superb.
I miss their displays, the games where they did make an impact on the atmosphere/experience and the connection with the club.
However, I always struggled with the politics and self entitlement but I suppose that comes with having ‘Ultras’

Agree with this. Remember when Sage was appointed he was excited about the atmosphere. Here in Germany even the average footy fan knows about the Palace atmosphere but watching on the tv/live-streams it is dead. On the other hand, the better atmosphere didn't actually have any positive effect upon our home form over the last 2 or 3 seasons did it.
A very good point

So true, there were some serious doom and gloomers running around tearing their hair out when we lost our opening two games (games we all thought we would lose) and then we beat Fulham and everyone went way too far the other way.
Never underestimate the feel good factor when it comes to getting carried away. Nor a couple of defeats to get the pessimists moaning! 🙂

Spot on

If you look at last season’s home / away tables, the clubs whose home form probably had the biggest say in keeping them up were Leeds Fulham & Sunderland. Leeds & Sunderland fans in my experience make a lot of noise throughout the game. I haven’t been to Fulham.

And it’s a hostile atmosphere generated by their passion, not the manufactured noise from the HF

Disagree. It was brilliant the first few years. Now we’ve stayed up so long the boredom of finishing 15th has set in. Going to the games now is a chore. No atmosphere, a poor team and they’ve even knocked down the Stephenson Lounge in the vague hope of building a new stand.

Spot on, our home form has been poor for years, I don’t know where they get this thing that selhurst is a hard place to come!!
I keep saying it, but if the team are doing well in a game the atmosphere will be good with or without the HF, if the team are struggling then any noise from the HF was just that, a noise, it wasn’t atmosphere. Basically get the team firing and selhurst will be bouncing again
Plus in the past we always had someone to get the crowd off their feet regularly. Mostly Wilf, but also Bolasie, Olise, and then Eze. We seem to have targeted flair players and decent defenders to sell. In Besiktas i saw a crowd that, despite their average team, made more noise than all the premier league crowds put together.
