I might be reading too much into it, but it feels like calling the two shirts "Home Shirt" and "Eagle Black" are because they don't want people to complain when it turns out it isn't the second shirt.

To add to this, emails about this have said "this is the second shirt to be announced" which feels like a trick to make you think "it's the second shirt".

If I am right, it feels a bit naughty.

It depends what you count as a change of crest. Man City have featured two different crests since 1997, so the last 29 years. They've also had their crest colour-faded in some years, as a lot of clubs have, including ourselves, but I wouldn't count that as a change of crest.

Palace have featured three different crests since 2010, so in the last 16 years. The retro crest this season will make it four in 17 years.

Everton have featured three different crests in the last 20 years, including one which was dumped after a year due to fan backlash (rightly so, it was an eyesore).

Villa have had three in 10 years, Brighton have had four in 20 years, Bournemouth have had three in 20 years, Chelsea have had three in 22 years, Arsenal have had three in 24 years. Liverpool just two in 20 years.

It was throw away comment, i didn't expect such a lengthy reply.

However, having a quick google once we went to the Eagle in the 70s the badge has predominantly remained the same with an eagle sitting on a ball on top of the old Crystal Palace, as it should be. I also think one of the changes was required as it was pointed out the bird wasn't actually an eagle!
IMHO we should always keep the old Crystal Palace as this is part of our heritage

Like last season with that horrible gold kit, bring that out first so all the mugs erm I mean fans buy it, then bring out the real 2nd strip

I've noticed most clubs now have a different badge on all three kits, just another way to try and fleece fans, dont mind in the lower leagues where the club actually benefits but in the prem the money is so insignificant from shirt sales just have 2 kits and alternate every 2 years. Maybe one day when sky jump on the net zero bandwagon.

So according to the Premier League handbook (which is on the Premier League website under Media, then Publications), the Eagle Black kit for Palace is listed as Alternative Kit 2 instead of Alternative Kit 1. New kit will likely be the main away.

I used to love getting palace shirts for Christmas.. only to realize by the time it gets warmer in April it's basically on it's way out... so I shifted to getting training tops..

I am going to pop back up and say, for the 100th time, we won the FA Cup wearing something a special needs child made in MS Paint. Nothing will ever be worse than that scenario for me.
