Next Manager?

The more I read about Javier Bordalas, the more I like the idea of having a bit of a footballing villain in the dugout.
Did the Selhurst tour at the weekend and it was reckoned there is no chance of Southgate (from the Horse's mouth allegedly) so that's one thing

But on the villain theme - Peter Mandleson - well connected, no compensation needed with his "lifestyle preferences" - would put bums on seats.

That is not where it would stop as he has quite a penchant for the derriere. 😉

I have not read the thread.
Mate of mine on Perth messaged to say that there seems to be a lot of talk about Ange and Palace over there.
I hope not
In the training video put out today I'm sure I heard an Aussie accent during the shooting practice towards the end with Guessand and Strand-Larsen 👀😬

An appointment of a Labour Icon would probably appeal to the one or two Labour Supporters on this site!!

SJ was saying that the flurry of transfer activity was odd on his view and thinks it might be a play to keep Glasner, adding "stranger things have happened".

Although I can't see it myself, I do wonder if his behaviour and results have tarnished his appeal to the sort of clubs he was hoping to join. Maybe if we're suddenly spending some money he might reconsider.

However, I suppose the question then would be do we even want to keep him now.

The latest odds have Southgate at the top. What do folk think of this?

I know many people like him (all the usual ‘ex player rubbish’) but in my opinion this would be a dreadful appointment that will only lead to the slow painful and dull death of our premier league membership, a fall in gate receipts (because people aren’t going to turn up to watch a team relegated playing boring football) and serve to articulate our lack of ambition. The new stand probably won’t be built (as Parish will say we can’t afford it) and we’ll be back where we were 20 years ago. To me, a managerial appointment is that important and I think we sometimes don’t consider the wider impact a good or poor manager can have. It feels to me as though Parish took his eye of the ball with OG and perhaps should have backed him more in the summer. (And we don’t know the conversations). I think we have to learn from this and not appoint the most boring football manager in the universe.
I do understand people's reservations about Gareth.

But I also think he tends to be underestimated.

Gareth Southgate is statistically England's most successful men's football manager in over 50 years, holding a 61% win rate over 102 games. He transformed the national team by reaching the 2018 World Cup semi-finals, and consecutive finals at Euro 2020 and Euro 2024, becoming the only manager to lead England to multiple major tournament finals.

Pretty impressive stats, and with perhaps a less risk adverse approach he might have gone one step further and won the Euros.

I don't think he would want a return to the daily grind of club management. And he's been out of that for some years now.

Anyway, he won't be coming to Palace, I'm pretty sure of that.

Southgate’s record looks better than it is because a lot of the opposition were from teams made up of butchers, bakers and candle stick makers. Certainly don’t want him as our next manager
That's typical of the underestimation that I mentioned.

Don't get me wrong, I don't want him at Palace either.

But he got England into finals when other more highly rated managers failed.

Why are we spending big on a manager who’s already on the way out? It doesn’t really add up. You’d think there must be someone lined up whose system fits the players we’re bringing in. If it were Southgate, for example, I imagine we’d have prioritised strengthening at centre-back. So maybe the club is looking at someone with a close working relationship with Matt Hobbs during his rapid rise to sporting director. Here’s a slightly left-field shout: Julen Lopetegui, apparently he and Hobbs worked well together.
That’s the best speculation I can come up with and my tin hat is ready!!

I'm going to need one as well - Eddie Howe !

Coventry was much better when they made Ghost Town. That's the scary part.
True. Coventry was scary in the early 1980's. Today it makes Thornton Heath look posh.

Hollywood are planning to film Black Hawk Down II in Coventry. But there is a glitch. The local WarLords refuse to accept a kickback in Cash, preferring H. But Trump has adversely affected the exchange rate between Columbian Marching Powder and Brown.
Mandelson was going to broker a peace deal involving an arbitrage of Kalashnikovs with some blood diamonds to balance the accounts. Abramovic, The former chairman of Chelsea blocked the deal with an old Veto he had negotiated - subject to Holloway doing a rematch of our Wembley promotion, dog pooh and all.
