I'm starting to wonder whether it's been Southgate all along. Ever since October when SP heard Glasner wouldn't sign a new contract, he's had Southgate in mind, but kept it very close to his chest.

You might be right there Sprites, but I’m hoping the fact that he hasn’t taken the job yet (when there is no contractual reason to stop him) suggests to me that the person SP has in mind is already in a job elsewhere.

I like Southgate as an ambassador for Palace- but if I had to watch the pointless sideways and backwards football he served up in his England days I honestly think I’d tear out what little hair I have left!

I have a hunch that our next permanent Manager might be Lampard (no real evidence to support this) but I just have a feeling.
I was underwhelmed by this at first, but then I started to watch more Coventry games and look a bit more into what he’s done there - in a couple of seasons with a limited budget (I.e. no parachute payments).

I watched an interview Ellis Simms did where he referenced Lampards influence on him and the squad in very positive terms. I accept he’s hardly going to slag the manager off - but many of the current generation of players grew up idolising Lampard as a player and know him a Premier League legend. I think this gives him unique currency when delivering his coaching and tactics. Imagine how Wharton could benefit from being coached by Lampard (who has Rudoni looking like a Premier League player btw).

I like the way Lampard conducts himself on the touch line, in interviews and the way he interacts with his players.
I am starting to think his manner and skill set might actually be a really good fit for Palace at this moment in time.

(……….or maybe I’m just so done with the temperamental mood vacuum that is Glasner).

I would be gutted if it's Southgate. England football was absolutely terrible at times, and if not for a couple of miracles we could have exited tournaments much earlier than we did. He won't be able to get away with that over a long domestic season. He proved he couldn't find a system that works with an abundance of talent, so what on earth would be muster with even lesser quality players at a club like ours. No thanks. Bring Pochetino in after the WC

Ah yes - Pochetino. He's the one about whom I posted a very critical opinion on here when he was at Spurs. He had been quoted in the press extolling the importance of cheating, specifically in relation to feigning injuries and fouls, and how such behaviour was taught and encouraged in Argentina. Nice chap.
