Mitchell

Pining for the days of serfdom? Salah is abiding by a legal contract
Not really.

I was clear that Salah is entitled to do what he chooses to do.

My point was that he should not be determining club strategy if his demands sit outside that strategy.
Only the club can determine that.

Bit of gossip floating around about palace "listening to offers"

If it was me I wouldn't mind going somewhere where he just has to play LB. He is doing a job at LWB. And fair play to him. He played his best when all he had to do was think about defending. Not running up trying to put in an assist and run all the way back. He looks so tired towards the end of games.

I'd sell him for the right price but only if we sign 2x replacements. The thing about him is that his injury record is excellent so, given our propensity to sign players who are seemingly constructed from matchsticks and Pritt Stick, we can't assume the next starting LWB will be as reliable.
Our medical team should carry out a simple test on potential signings. If they are made out of Weetabix then stay away. Or in our case at least negotiate a price cut.

I'm surprised to see quite a few posters open to selling him - whilst I don't disagree that he has some clear limitations, he's still an excellent player and would cost tens of millions to replace.

I think he's somewhat spoilt us as a fanbase and we probably take for granted his reliability both in terms of availability and performance levels - there can't be many outfield players who have played more minutes than him in the Prem over the last few seasons and he rarely has a bad game.

Having said that all of that, a younger understudy to provide some competition is a no-brainer for our squad.

And he's still one of the best LB defenders in the PL, which is why the likes of ManUre and Spuds are apparently interested in him.

Indeed, the hate he gets on here is very unfair.

I hope he signs a new contract, defensively he is excellent. Perhaps he can even fill in the left side of a back 3 sometimes.

He is very left footed but he is one of our own and if we had a 2nd left back we might see TM perform even better. How he has handled that role for seasons now without rest is a testament to him

He's not a world-beater. Man Utd has an impeccable record of paying well over the odds for players: there are plenty of examples, but Maguire takes the biscuit. Mitchell is no Wan-Bissaka, and United paid far too much for him. So if we are offered 30 million we should take it. That said, it's depressing that he would be another example of a product of our much vaunted academy not really doing for the club what ideally it should. I'd love to see a Palace team fielding five academy products. Or we could take the 'Chelsea view' and regard them as nice little earners. Even if they made a mistake in letting Guehi go, it didn't look a mistake when they trousered 20m for a player who hadn't started a match for their first team (I think I'm right in saying). Humble pie if not.

It's curious that two comparable players can be judged differently; one on what he can do and the other on what he can't. TM is unfortunate to fall into the second category. Other clubs already want him - if he was any better going forward he'd be long gone anyway.

I think Mitchell is a far more rounded footballer than AWB - AWB is exceptional at a couple of things, but also has some glaring holes in his game, a lot more so than Mitchell.

I wouldn't take £30m for Mitchell - I don't think we could improve on him with that kind of fee. There's a shortage of good quality left backs at the moment evidenced by how many teams in the Prem are lining up with makeshift LBs.

I find the criticisms of the academy incredibly strange in this context - we've produced a player who's played 150+ first team games, made it to the England squad, and who we're now discussing whether we would sell for £30m... surely that's a roaring success for the academy!?

Having 5/11 of a line-up from the academy at this level is very, very idealistic - I'm not sure any club has achieved that in the last 10 years.

It'd be nice to think it could happen but Premier League clubs have the whole world to buy from - the chances of the best possible option coming from anyone's academy are slim. Of course they do come through but they are the best of the best young players available.

One issue might be that he is playing LWB and adapting slowly to the role.

But on the either side we have a specialist RWB who I genuinely think is top 3 EPL.

You see one; you see the other; you compare; you judge.

I don't think the desire should be to sell Mitchell, but to see him catch up with Munoz.

Yep, the levels are so high in the league it would have to be a hell of a golden generation to have 5 players of that standard come through at the same time.

If you can produce one Prem-standard player every other season, I think that's about as good as you can hope for from an academy.
