I see his agent is working overtime in fantasy land with links to Barcelona, Arsenal and Madrid this morning! My guess is Palace are offering him a deal on similar terms and he wants more. He's reliable and is nearly always available, but the idea he is a top-level fullback is a stretch. He comes across as a nice lad, but I can't see Palace pushing the boat out to keep him when in all likelihood it's a position that Glasner wants to upgrade.

Wasn't he something like the top English left back in the Premier League for tackles last season and was up there the season before too? No doubt he will be again this season. Plus, being first and second amongst other stats (admittedly defensive stats largely but also distance covered).
I'm not sure exactly what he has to do to win people over - become Kenny Sansom? He already has to play 97 minutes every game or we're up the proverbial creek.
Glasner didn't really say what people are saying. He said Mitchell could work on a couple of things but that he's excellent. No players are all things to all people - that would be crazy. Unless they're Schlupp. Every player can work on something, although there's always the balance of playing to their strengths. Not sure why we have to play to a particular system or nothing else as it has no long-term sustainability - as demonstrated by Glasner's career.

I don't think he's a bad player, I think he's solid and reliable. I don't worry about him letting us down defensively. I don't want him to leave. My point was I wonder if the club are offering him a modest deal based on the fact he is a solid member of the squad rather than a star and perhaps his agent is pushing for him to get more by spreading rumours in the press. I do think it is a position we could upgrade though if we're sticking with three centre backs. TM gets so many chances to cross and shoot that his attacking stats should be better. Munoz is also ahead of him this season on the defensive stats too in terms of average tackles per game and number of interceptions.

He is very good but come on! Real Madrid?? Pure agent speak.
His value is his rarity as we are discovering trying to find a player to compete for that role.
I suspect the penny will drop with the club and he will stay on better terms.

I don't believe the Barcelona, Real Madrid stuff. I'd be concerned about c**** like Spurs though. I'd also have a massive concern about how much it would cost to get a genuinely decent replacement. If it's going to cost say minimum 25mil for someone decent then we may as well give Mitchell 35-40k a week more.
Plus, how much of a transfer fee are we going to miss out on? I wouldn't be confident of keeping him.
With our left back situation it reminds me of an Agatha Christie (I think it was her) story "And then there were none".

I think we're his level. Maybe he could get in a 'big' team but if he does then it'd be a Man United type situation - a player who doesn't really do justice to the history of the shirt. There's a lot of our team who'd get in the current Man United side who I wouldn't say are Man United worthy players.
The fact that England will pick literally anyone other than him at LB over the last year (Trippier, Saka, Colwill, Lewis...) is all the evidence anyone needs of how he's viewed in the football community. He's fine - he isn't anywhere near Barcelona, Arsenal, Real Madrid.
If he were to go I'd be interested in trying to beat Celtic to Kieran Tierney and then looking for more of a gamble-type player from abroad or lower leagues.

Personally I think he’s looked a far better player since Glasner took over and switched us to three at the back. So I wouldn’t want to see him go.
Although with The Doug picking up the excellent Munoz and LaCroix the last two windows I’d feel fairly confident of a decent replacement

Tierney is a good player but his injuries, particularly hamstrings, have mounted up so he would be quite a risk.

Tierney has only played in 1 game this season - When Arsenal defeated us 3-2 recently.

I saw the Barcelona, Real, Athletico links and assumed I'd woken up in a parallel universe, or at very the least it was April 1st..!!
If they want him and prepared to pay a decent price - let him go..!!
LBH - he's average at best - a half reasonable defender but he's passing and crossing are woeful..!!
In fact a new LWB is top of my list for the January window..!!
So if Real or Barcelona want to pay us £20 odd Million bring it on, I can SP in his Dick Turpin mask now..!!

The club has been rather stupid to leave this as late as it is, though suspect they may have tried an extension but on terms not acceptable. He is the only defensive left back we have and we have gotten away with murder (and Ward on the left as a replacement) for a couple of seasons having no cover. So TM and his agent, not being stupid know they are in a strong position.
Let's hope he signs and even then we need another signing for this position, Ben Chilwell could do a job for us but guess that will be too expensive. A loan signing of Maatsen who barely gets playing time at Villa another decent option.
