Mateta

I have no sympathy for him. He decided to leave (us) and now it's all backfired. He wanted double salary and champions league - now got the bench and a get fit task ahead of him.

Saw pics of him in training just jacking about and being Mr big Bollo+ks ...

Sorry but I think he's got what he deserved.

Maybe try putting in a shift and scoring a few easy one-on-ones
Couldn't have put it better myself.

I am a bit surprised by the responses on the Mateta topic. I would say in recent times we have been very reactive with transfers and these never seem to work out well. At least we have an alternative centre forward in place so if Mateta needs medical treatment he can now get it. To me he has been carrying an injury for at least a couple of months though since the FA Cup match he looks to have benefitted from the rest and looked to be in better shape. Best case he gets his knee fixed and comes back on fire before the end of the season. If we had not signed Strand-Larsen we would not have any fit strikers until Mateta or Nketiah got over their issues when are already struggling for goals.

So Milan wanted Mateta as an nkunku replacement. Who then wanted to stay earlier today. Maybe milan said he failed the medical to get him on the cheap in the summer?

Just another spin on it but it could really have been the knee?
I don't believe Milan didn't know about his injury. Were they trying to do a Palace and get the fee dropped? My guess is yes, and Palace called their bluff.

Could have been a lot of things. There are so many moving parts in these transfers.

We saw with JSL, that Wolves had Armstrong lined up, Southampton had Larin etc.

So if Nkunku decided to stay it throws everything up in the air, finance, playing time etc.

I find it funny Jamie Redknapp said “what on earth do you do next after failing a medical?”.

Well surely you of all people can answer that question for us Jamie, you’ve failed your fair share over the years… and everyone else’s.
And Ashley Williams on Sky yesterday saying he wouldn't have fancied playing against Mateta last season. But this season, '' no problem '' !

His missed chances are a big part of the reason we aren't higher up the league. The fourth biggest XG underperformer in Europe's top 5 leagues this season.

Amazes me had the confidence to say the club aren't ambitious enough when our league position is heavily his fault.

Then to publicly throw the toys out the pram days after the Glasner and Guehi news to sow maximum damage to the club, play crap against Chelsea, not be arsed to put in the effort for Forest and moan publicly again on social media.

Do the operation, remove his access to the training ground and do all his rehab with the U21s.

If he gets fully fit, scores goals for the 21s, does the grovelling apology as publicly as he did his whining and can be accepted by the first team, then he has the final few weeks of the season for a very unlikely claim to the France squad.

His world cup dream is probably over. Shame for him, but he only has himself and his advisors to blame. Multiple people in the media said finish the season strongly with Palace and you'll get in.

Huge credit to the club for signing the replacements anyway and retaining the power for the coming months.

Totally. I'm pretty sure somewhere along the line Glasner said words to the effect that Mateta is the best striker he's worked with ha ha. Glasner kept using him because he doesn't have the imagination to try something different, even when Mateta was totally misfiring and needed a rest. Both come away discredited from the sorry saga, and it's time to move on.

His injury was minor otherwise he wouldn't have played.

So it's like saying you have gone to work with a cut finger you put a plaster on.

In sports they like the overplay or exaggerate things.

I just hope Palace can get good money for him in the summer to many transfer we are messing up and losing out on a lot of £££.
It was a significant enough injury to block his transfer and now require surgery. We won't get anything for him until it's fixed.

Did Glasner publicly come out in a conference a couple weeks ago saying JPM lost the knobby knee comp at butlins ?

Hence highlighting a possible knee problem to all potential buyers !

JPM & SP needs a conversation with OG on this one as it was he who scuppered any deal !

OG is a bit of an idiot and his outspoken dummy spits at press has caused many many issues at Palace

It was in the news back in October about a niggling knee injury , so everyone knew then

Watching Sky last night, the after deadline show, and that clown Boyd said he had doubts whether SL would score more than Larsen because strikers need a team that creates chances and that is Palace’s real problem. No one pulled him up on it and pointed out Palace and Mateta in particular have one of the highest xGs for goals and the lowest conversion rate. Much of that is down to Mateta’s poor form.

What transfers have we messed up? Olise had a release clause otherwise he wouldn’t have signed his contract. Eze als had a release clause, as per Olise. Guehi we were messed around by Liverpool in the summer. Guehi was not going to sign a new contract but we got £20m with only 6 months of his contract left.
Obviously an injury that stopped his transfer, so obviously nothing a plaster would have solved
