Mateta

Mateta going can finally put an end to the incessant arm waving he does in home games to get the crowd going (I cannot stand this). We make noise and do our bit, JP, now time to do yours. Either you stay and work hard or just go.
It's a tough call to encourage the crowd when you've just missed/fluffed/ballooned your last 10 chances.

He's under contract. He moves if we agree a deal.

He will put in 100% if he stays with the World Cup looming.
His head is not in it, contract or not. Are we now to assume that he is an absolute professional and show up for the cause? Which is relegation fight. So far this season, the evidence is pointing to a big fat No. Handing in transfer requests, speaking to other teams, You can't be that naiive surely?

No

What does "not in the right place to play" actually mean?
Its called pressure and his mind set is way off course with all the transfer rumors' not scoring and cant play his way back into form , some people can handle it some cant , his name has been mentioned about all these teams wanting him , he could be on a million that doesnt change how you handle everything , and everyone on here expects him to score nothing else ,

He comes out of his purple patch and the pressure is on , as he was our only goal scorer left on the pitch , and missing chances even not getting them on target which was his biggest part of his game was getting him down , strikers love scoring , goalies love clean sheets , he was in a good place at the start of the season , now he isnt smiling his form has got him down and also seeing maybe his dreams going , put yourself in his place with fans starting to shout at you , he isnt enjoying football , what would you do

I agree, He might sulk now but if the window closes and he's still with us even his agent will be telling him to knuckle down if he wants to have any chance of going to the World Cup

Why has this now become a thing? Players not playing because their "head's not in it" to force a move. This has to be some sort of misconduct, fine-able offence?

Maybe he shouldn't be paid this week then? Imagine if this had been a thing when all the big boys were sniffing around Zaha? He would have been gone at the first bid

So you think he will sulk and not try in a World Cup year if he stays.

I disagree.

I can't blame him for wanting a much improved contract as he only has a few more seasons at top level and Italy is much better arena for that with strikers still valued into their mid-30s.

But his recent demeanour puts me in mind of fellow bald French striker that the press dubbed 'Le Sulk', Nicholas Anelka. Famed for the Anelka-ometer in the Guardian to gauge how close he was to "Off in the Morning" . Looks like for JP the arrow is right up against that part of the dial now.

I've probably been more supportive of him than others, but if he has told Glasner he's not in the right mindset to play a highly important game for us, then that is highly disappointing (to put it mildly). Is it too much to ask that highly paid professionals at least pretend to give a sh*t about the fans and the club who have supported them for years?

If he is sulking, then it's probably for the best he's kept away from the squad until either he leaves or the window closes.

He has the right to go on strike but we should not pay him if he says he isn’t going to play.

I think this is great news as it’s about time he was dropped. On his day he has been great for us. But he is out of form and at last OG’s hand has been forced. This may let Johnson and Sarr thrive if Mitchell and Munoz get early crosses in behind the defence. Even Pino might improve. I am now looking forward to this game as we will have a group of players who actually want to play for us.

It means he cant be asked to play, and despite Glasner saying its not the transfer, it is, cant afford him injured or playing like Frankenstein and putting the buyer off.
