Mateta

I don’t think he’s a bad person. I don’t think he’s not trying or has downed tools. I just think he’s a bit s**t.

Classic case of a not very good player who hit a purple patch and has reverted to form as a baby giraffe impersonator

He should be dropped. Give Nketiah another go. Can’t be any worse than Mateta atm.
Considering he's out with a hamstring injury that would be quite extreme! But possibly just as much use atm. JP needs to get his head down and find his form. Finding form for us is his best chance of getting into the French WC squad. Needs to sort his act out quickly.

I do think Mateta deserved a new deal a year ago when he was banging them in. That deal should have reflected his standing as our first choice striker and the value his goals had.

This deal would have had a release clause in place that would have solved all this b0ll0x as it is then in black and white. Wolves did it with Cunha and it just helps keep your stars happy when you know
The time has come. This Mateta situation benefits no one and certainly not the rest of the squad.

I don’t know salaries but imagine Nketiah is earning more then Mateta and that isn’t going to help things
He may not be the highest earner in the squad but he earns more than you and earned in a lifetime. If he was on performance related pay he’d be skint. He needs to shut the f*ck up and do his job.

I think too much has happened with Mateta this month. He is not a good as he thinks he is. If we do keep him, then only a hat-trick against Brighton will go some way to atonement.

Glasner indicated that Mateta will play tomorrow.
With that in mind the question is who plays either side of him.
My choice would be Sarr and Johnson to provide some pace and impetus to get behind the Chelsea defence.
I also think James (if starting)will eat Pino for breakfast should he come up against him on our left side.
However, I expect Glasner to start Pino with Sarr and Johnson competing for the other place.

It looks like we may be out of the bidding for Strand Larsen.
It will be interesting to see what the club does if a suitable bid comes in for Mateta.
I wonder if it would be similar to the Guehi and Eze scenarios where players are let go without a replacement in place.
I know some say the club isn't in a position to buy until we sell, but I have another take.
If we did sell Mateta for e.g £35 million and we approached a club for a player to replace Mateta it may well be that player becomes expensive as the selling club know we are desperate and have funds for a replacement.
Do we need a go fund me for other buys

I would say he needs to get his head up. He seems to have lost all his pride. All the talk about his knee. Palace need to start communicating with the fans from the top. Parish. Instead he scurries off 15 mins from the end. Great.

What do you want them to say?

"Sorry" would be a start for me!

I do get the point though, not sure what can be said?

The old cliches ring the most true, and 'football is a results business'. Two months that have been beyond sh!te, it's gone beyond 'not getting results' for me. It's arrived at a stage where I have no faith in Palace as a competitive football team whatsoever, so I've lost both my joy and interest.

The only thing that can improve and placate the fans is results however nothing changes if nothing changes. The next couple of games have to bring either results or change. If not, I fear anarchy.

Ive looked up Mateta stats since joining the club he has played equivalent of 118 games as per mins played over his time with us and has scored 56 goals in that time , I think he deserves a little more respect than what you pack of wolves are showing him ,

yes understand your current frustration with him , but the pile you are saying is totally out of order , tone it down a little please , his stats will always show him as a good striker , not a great one give you that , but you dont get 56 goals by being useless , and he has scored some really great goals , and against Brighton so that alone is worth respect 👍

That's great, but I think the problem for Mateta is that there is a way to leave a club and he isn't doing it right. He is rightly being criticised for an absolutely atrocious season thus far. Handing in transfer requests, agreeing terms with Juventus, trying to force a move from the club is not sitting well with fans.

Perhaps Mateta should show some respect to the club and us fans. He could be sitting on 15+ goals this term but his behaviour especially to the club whom stood by him before he hit form last season and by all accounts has been offered a bloody good deal, is what is getting people's backs up.

So, I'm sorry, but I would delighted to see the back of Mateta, if he doesn't want to be here then we should cash in and let him go. No point him sitting here when he clearly doesn't want to be here, being paid a handsome amount of money to score goals, which he isn't doing.

didnt ask for a transfer until 7 days ago , if he really wanted out this window it would have been done on the 1st jan , so think he done alot of sole searching before then

I always thought JP would come good, and he did. Now he's in a slump, which happens, but I think why people are having a go is because (apparently) he's said he wants to leave but it's also been said that he hasn't put in a transfer request. At the moment he couldn't hit a Rhino's arse with a bazooka from a couple of feet and we do need a quality striker bringing in, then if JP goes he goes he goes. Personally I would cash in now for the 20+ mil offer we've had. He's closer to 30 than not and now's a good time for both parties. All that said he's been fantastique for us and a two trophy legend. Shouldn't be slated.

I was a staunch supporter when he appeared to be throwing himself into each match he played for us, scoring goals for fun and joshing with his team mates.

Now, it is abundantly clear he's not putting in the hard yards to help the team. He's missing chance after chance to hit the back of the net and, despite the fact that he breaks into a sweat very quickly, he lumbers about the pitch like a bloke playing a friendly with his mates in the park after downing a few pints of Tennants Super.

The best description of present day Mateta I have heard. How can a bloke who lumbers round most of the game look so knackered so quickly?
