Mateta

I dont want to see him in a Palace shirt again.
I don’t mind him playing, but not ahead of Larsen, we want to give this fella a good run in the team instead of keep benching him and bringing him on for a few minutes second half. Give him a chance to get off the mark instead of killing his confidence playing someone who doesn’t want to be here. Let mateta be the one who’s thrown on late when it’s too late to have an impact.

I get it… but I want to see it just because he is a sizeable asset.

Best case scenario for us now is he comes back rested, competes with Strand Larsen for that spot, both do well and we rotate where needed but SL does better so gets more starts. We finish the season strongly in the League and Comference. He makes the WC and we get a good fee for him to reinvest.

Ideally i’d like a public apology but (like with Glasner) whilst we are winning I’ll accept clear indications of commitment to the end of the season. They remain my least favourite entities currently at the club though and if they mess up again (temperament or performance) they can’t complain if we turn on them.
Its about dignity and manner, Guehi-Correct, Mateta-Disgraceful

i do, Guessand, Nketiah and Uche(from the bench) in front of Mateta

This has now become a tough one. One minute he's off, doesn't want to play for us anymore, couldn't hit an elephant's bollocks with a tennis racket and I'm thinking ta ta JP. Now it's all changed and he's staying, at least until the summer, I think I have to get behind him while he wears the Palace shirt, as I always have, and remember the fantastic moments he's given us. All very confusing for my poor old brain

Could get awkward if he scores, kicks the flag and a lone voice from the stand says "boom?".

For me it's simple. He's got to show he's busting a gut and show some decent form and then he'll get my full support. If this happens it gives the club the greatest chance of success this season and that's my only concern. Getting a negative reaction from fans I don't believe will be beneficial for the club. We'll then see what happens in the summer.

I do think it's good that he's got a few weeks off for rehab though so that the dust has settled a little.

If JP should ever appear in a Palace shirt again I won’t slag him off, however I do think he’s burnt his bridges and he will be gone one way or another in the summer.

Reminds me of a similar situation a few years back with Shefki Kugi, he was public enemy number one but things smoothed over, he returned to the side and scored more goals.

I don’t recall him scoring any goals at all to be fair

They Wanted him to go to rehab, and he said, No, No, No

I never realised how many experts in orthopaedics we had among our supporters. They seem to know the nature of Mateta’s knee problem and the fact that surgery would fix it. It seems clear that the specialists who have seen him do not feel surgery is appropriate but have recommended a period of rest to allow his knee swelling to subside. Had there been an obvious issue with a meniscus they’d have looked to “tidy up” his knee surgically by a relatively simple procedure. He obviously hasn’t torn a ligament either or he would have been rested before and if necessary undergone surgery.
His knee issue is either a relatively minor problem which will resolve with rest, or a more chronic issue which isn’t “fixable” and will cause recurring swelling when he plays 90 minutes once or twice a week. Either way his future this season is test for a few weeks, get fit, and be available off the bench…. assuming SL can avoid injury!

One might be inclined to think, by way of logical reasoning, that when Strand Larsen signed on the dotted line he would have asked about the status of Mateta. Oh.

Get the pillocks knee sorted, give him a few sub appearances when needed then f*** him off.
By the by am I the only one who doesn't think Guehi is the feckin Saint he's being made out to be?
Made his name with us then runs his bloody contract down without a care for the club or its finances and then fucks off on the cheap thank ya very much.
Decent enough player but no saint.

Maybe not the only one, but at a guess I'd say a very small minority 😂

As I said ages ago, we could have paid him £10m as a one off payment to sign a 2 year extension with a promise to let him go at the same time that he left anyway. This would have protected his value and he would have probably been better off overall whilst we still got say an extra £20m.

I’ll support him massively however for the manner in which he continued to play right until the end. Well, until Macclesfield anyway.
