Mateta

Obviously if he is going to Forest it would be in his favour for Forest to win, he could miss 3 open goals on purpose and we wouldn't know 😎

He's definitely better than the replacement that we're looking at though and we're gonna massively overspend on him too.

I honestly think it could be some of the worst transfer business the club has done. Not only be weaker in the striker position but also be out of pocket for it. Which will leave a new manager in the summer with no funds and some misfiring overpriced duds.

Despite all the players we've lost, poor form, manager fallout etc this is the news which is making me most depressed. As it marks a considerable move away from a philosophy which has served us well - and actually weakens us financially as we face undoubtedly a huge summer of transitions.
Isn't Wolves where our new DoF came from?? Hmmmm.

Whilst I agree the price seems too high, I honestly believe SL is a better all round player than JPM. He is certainly a better finisher and has better movement

Impossible to know what will happen with players who are not at the top top level like Kane, Haaland, etc. Some players are rubbish for one club and dynamite for another. Look at Sorloth, Sterling, Hoyland, Benteke, Torres, Carrol, great if in the right team, right formation and given time, shite for some teams. Mateta is fairly average. Cannot head (except when defending corners), hold up play ropey, slow, poor at one on ones, but hes big and has a good shot on him. Sell him while his value is high, try someone else.

Agree mate, this is madness

The ideal solution is to keep JP (until the summer at least) and buy SL.

SL is relatively young and still has potential to improve in a progressive team so his resale value will remain high. If JP moves in the summer we will have to accept lower but we have the replacement in house and he has still a lot of residual value.

Use the lower JP value to buy a young up and coming prospect.(French lad).

We will then have 3 young (ish) strikers for next season with Eddie.

yes he can , has scored as well as defending and laying off with his head so a little unfair , yes he is normally better with his feet , but hey he did get his ear almost ripped off I think I would be not so confident

If Larsen does sign and is eligible to play v Forest I take it that Mateta will be off ( despite Sky saying we're happy to keep both).
Like with Guehi, Parish won't want the risk of Mateta being injured before a big move.
I suspect Parish is holding out for the highest bidder as there seems to be a fair bit of interest in Mateta.
If it's to be Forest I don't see Mateta signing for them until after our game against them (we don't want him rediscovering his form against us).

I await our front 3 and bench v Forest with interest.

If he does end up signing for Forest, he is obviously expecting a huge upturn in league form or for them to win the Europa to get the champions league place he thinks he is good enough for, and the main reason for wanting to leave! (It’s not about the money, honest)
I am more than happy for him to move on to bigger and better (as long as we get decent money) but Forest !!!!
I actually think it is just the fat c#nt messing us about and trying to unsettle the player.

It's now in Wolves interest to get this done asap so Larsen can play against Forest.

Given recent performances he’s unlikely to move enough to pull his hamstring or aggravate his knee “injury” and unless the Forest keeper decides to kick him in the head, I think he’ll be safe enough. Defenders bounce off him.

Maybe he will wind his neck in a bit now he knows nobody has actually been queuing for his signature. Prat thought he was on the same level as Harland. He was at his best when he was humble and worked hard. At the end of Roy’s reign he had shown signs of improvement, not so much scoring but holding the ball up and bringing others into play. Really kicked on under Ollie.

As others have said, this current version of JP is just bad on every level. Maybe if as reported Forest have cooled on him and Ollie decides to play him, he can start showing what he can do by sticking a couple past Forest and show them what they missed.
