Mass Deportations to begin.

And then things start to get interesting. Suspect an AfD victory, and full implementation of this vision, will potentially set off a chain of events that could well see the EU implode. Humour me on this a little...

The Germans start sending foreigns back in significant numbers. This then sparks an excodus out of Germany into neighbouring country's. I think we can assume they are not going to go east so they will look to head West. Specifically France, Belgium and Holland. This in turn sparks a reaction those nations sealing their borders, as will other nations (I would have thought the Scandinavians would also react in a similar vein. Ditto with Austria). Switzerland no doubt already has secure border checks.

Plunging the entire continent into turmoil, sparking off mass civil unrest which in turns implodes the EU. I would hope (but fear not) that finally our own pathetic excuse for a Government would have to take action as well on the channel coast.

Could be an interesting summer.
Except for one thing!

Whilst the AfD might hold the largest share of the votes, might being the operative word, they won’t hold power.

Germany is always a coalition and no one else is prepared to work with the AfD. A grand coalition is the most likely outcome.

So the vision imagined above isn’t going to happen.

A grand coalition of any side won't last. Some will likely recognise that if the AfD is the biggest party then they will have to be the main government party. And by some, I don't just mean the people - politicians will have to face the reality of working with them whether they like all of their ideas or not.
Largely similar happening in France so people talking about a changed EU might well be correct. Of course there's also Italy and a movement in the Netherlands, also Denmark (don't think it's fully EU?), Austra, Belgium, Poland in the recent past and present. And I've probably missed out others. A nationalist party won in Romania but a re-election has been called due to Russian interference. I couldn't help but wonder where I'd seen similar before.
In fact, the EU parliament itself has not been so blind not to see that the right are now in the majority and have tried to push through legislation before it becomes fully reflected as the reality in the EU parliament.
One of my worries with this is that Britain and Ireland will then be back to dancing to a different tune to both the US and the EU then. Not promising. Perhaps trying to cosy up to China is genuinely happening in case of this realignment. Because it's not like we're friendly with Russia or their allies either.
Just political realities I guess.

That there is a trend to the right is obvious. How long it lasts is another matter. These things are generally cyclical. This one being driven by xenophobia may last longer but we will see. Germany has always existed on coalitions so even if the AfD were admitted to one they could not dictate policy. They could only influence it. That though isn’t going to happen soon.

What’s going to ultimately reverse this trend? It won’t be any reduction in the attempts by people to migrate from poor economies to better ones. Nor will it be by any reduction in the need for the better ones to accept them. Only by increasing the legal routes and clamping down on the illegal will a start be made.

Far too much concentration is put on the immediate effect of immigration and not nearly enough on the longer term need for it. Western nations face a demographic crisis of sharply declining birthrates and sharply increasing longevity. There are countries where on current trends there will be 5 times as many retired people than those of working age by 2050. That’s unsustainable.

Automation will help, a little. Postponing retirement, rather more. Neither though nearly enough. Immigration must fill the gap. Only when that need is understood better, more widely accepted and better managed will things get better. I fear they must get worse first. Whether our politicians can avoid that seems doubtful in the age of populism. An age when promising the impossible gets you power and money.

Of course behind the scenes there are those who want to see the west collapse and are using the tools of modern life to exploit the fears that the xenophobes spread. So Russian interference is real enough. Supporting populists helps achieve their own objectives.

Getting closer to China is something that seems inevitable. This is their century and although there are many aspects of their system that are unattractive you cannot help but admire the staggering progress they have achieved. The people might be controlled but they generally seem happy and healthy. They are certainly well educated.

Of course at 80 I won’t get to see it.

Please inform yourself on current German politics. This is what you want - not the actual situation. The CDU has taken the AfD policies and has put them through. There are some small counter protests getting undue coverage but the majority support the AfD position.
If the CDU do not support the AfD initiatives then it's goodbye to them - not vice versa.

That’s not true.

The CDU has reacted to the rise of the AfD and moderated its own policies as a consequence. In no way has it simply taken the AfD policies and put them through. Many are far too extreme for that to be acceptable to them.

It's not worth having a pantomime exchange on this. I stated exactly what was happening. I can't state anymore than that. I literally just watched it on Euronews but maybe that's too right wing for you?

I was amused to read about the Parisian theatre Gaite Lyrique. It is owned by the left-wing Paris Council. They staged a free conference on ‘reinventing the refugee welcome in France’. Two hundred African migrants took them at their word and refused to leave the theatre unless they were offered free accommodation. Later another 150 joined them in the occupation – apparently chanting “we want liberty, equality, fraternity”.

Various delusional left-wing activists sent in boxes of food (I expect a food parcel from Cornwall is enroute). Some critics have said it is the best show the theatre has put on for years. Meanwhile, the theatre itself is likely to go bankrupt and their 60 or so employees will lose their jobs.

Then you must have misunderstood it. It’s not what is happening.

The German Parliament rejected a bill today that was proposed by the CDU and supported by the AfD. Enough CDU members objected to them accepting support from the AfD to see it fail. Even Merkel objected.

The AfD are claiming a victory but the fact is that the bill did not pass.

So the CDU members who rejected it would have supported it if the afd hadn’t supported it. Yeah that’s a sound argument!. A bit like not supporting palace because spurs play in white as well.
Anything but a change is where they are at and it will bite them on the bum when it kicks off over there.

I know no better than you how individual members would vote but I think as it was the policy they were objecting to they would most likely vote against anyway.

Trump to act true to his word while our illegals, are welcomed by Starmer, with open arms and put up in 3 star ÷ hotels and potentially,a lifetime on benefits??

US don't follow Human rights like we do.

If you are illegal you can't claim benefits.

People need to stop listening to media BS.

I hear so many people moan about people coming into this country yet they do not appear to understand without a large % of them the country would not function (NHS is prime example)

And who shall we blame for that situation?

We want to keep the percentage who work hard and get rid of the ones who run organised crime, rape little girls and slice up innocent people.

This has got to be progress! It’s a huge change.

That’s what everyone wants. No one wants criminals, rapists or terrorists in our midst, whether born here or not. We want people who contribute.

Unless you commit fraud which according to a report I saw the other day is widespread. Organised gangs are very good at creating fake documentation to allow illegals to work and claim.

You are correct that we are far too reliant on immigrants legal or otherwise for our economy and that is the fault of the politicians. Over 9m sitting on their arse not working.

It is staggering how much is paid out based on online answers, same with immigration applications. Fill out the form ansd tick the " I confirm this is true " box and off you go.

Root and branch required, billions being wasted thru fraud and incompetence

So why not get the wronguns the f*** out of the uk asap. Too many liberals protecting their uman rights
Even criminals have human rights. It’s what sets us apart from totalitarian states. They are entitled to a fair trial and legal representation. Why? Because if we don’t provide that then the slide into the state using the system to remove opponents becomes a possibility.

It might be frustrating and can delay justice but is a necessary balance against a greater threat.

If true, which I have no information on, then this screams to me for the need for everyone to have to have an identity card. One that is impossible to fake, be full of the latest technology and only available at recognised, government approved centres.

Getting many of those currently living on benefits back into the labour market has long been a bone of contention for me. Most can do something, so they should. I have had tenants quite happy to have their rent paid for them, enough provided for heat, cooking and water and accepting charity for clothes, furniture and food. Then they sit playing video games all day on a huge TV, surrounded by their mates and cans of beer. All, by the way, as British born as me!
