Marc Guéhi

How this situation resolves itself in order of my preference:

1. Guehi signs new 5 year deal no release clause
2. Guehi signs 2 year contract extension with reasonable release clause (50m) - which can only be triggered next summer.
3. He's sold this summer for 50m+
4. We have another decent season and he leaves on a free.
5. We sell him this transfer window for a small fee (less than 40m) leaving us short in defence and with little time to find a suitable replacement.

Unfortunately I think in reality the likelihood is it'll be one of the last two scenarios.

FFP is calculated over a period, so clubs don't have to sell first before bringing in a replacement. In recent years we've usually signed the replacement before selling someone

Yes, you're right but it seems FFP rules are being more stringently applied and the wages involved for big clubs must have an effect too.

Unfortunately we are now indeed in territory 4/5.

Neither ideal. But 4 is probably worse, as it might limit our ability to strengthen this window as we'll need to find 30m to replace him next season

At this point best to sell up, get what you can for him, get a replacement in before the end of the window. If he doesn't want to sign a new contract the situation will only affect the dressing room poorly, as you can't keep him as captain in that situation. Got to trust the scouting team to get the calls right on a new CB.

Marc is highly family orientated and may prefer not to disrupt those dynamics.

6 million of that will go to Chelsea 20 percent sell on clause . Not a fantastic deal but better than nothing .
The 20% is only on profit made I think. I.e if we bought him for 20m sell him for 30m, 10m profit is just 2m to Chelsea for the 20% sell on. A galling fee for such a talent though. I'd almost rather he left on a free and we had our captain for another year.

If a deal looks likely expect Chelsea to step in at the last minute as they have first refusal. They may not need him long term but if Liverpool do they will take him.

Looks like we will essentially get back what we paid for him and possibly enough to have covered his wages.

This is how I always thought our deal with Chelsea was. A first refusal not a future percentage.

Out of interest....how does a player agree personal terms with another club while still under contract with current club?

Or is it he is allowed to within one year of contract expiring?

A simple new contract with a small release clause for next summer would have probably suited all parties 🤷🏻‍♂️

Would be such a shame to see him go this season. He looks genuinely happy here and risks not featuring in a Liverpool side, the season before a World Cup.

Sign a new deal, put yourself on the shop window in the tournament next summer and get your big money move then, please!

The timing of this is bad with the season due to start on Sunday v Chelsea.

In training are we preparing with or without Guehi in the side?
Lerma can slot in if a move for Guehi is imminent, but it's not ideal.

This is compounded by the news on Eze (if true).
We potentially could be without both the captain and vice captain ( I think Eze took the armband after Guehi went off).
The Chelsea game of course is followed quickly by our first European fixture and the potentially feisty Forest game.

Never dull at Palace!

Like many on here I would much prefer Geuhi, to be a Palace player longer term, but he doesn’t seem to want that. So my hope is Liverpool are not messing us about here. I can’t help wondering why they didn’t try harder earlier. At the same time I have the same worry with Marc and his rep,s . Do they really want Liverpool, or are they on a promise ,from Spain, or Germany? To run his contract down.
Parish, might have left himself ever easier to play by being so open concerning the Guehi situation. Him saying he needs to sell leaves prospective buyers saying ,yes you do.

We already need to sign a CH, if Guehi goes we need two plus Glasner wants a forward minimum.

Unless we sell Eze our only income from transfers is going to be Guehi plus whatever is in the coffers from this years tv money and maybe new Directors input (within the regs).

We have no idea how much we have to spend.

If Eze goes I would keep Guehi and let him go on a free next season. If Eze stays then we should definitely try to sell Guehi this summer as I think there is very little chance of him signing any sort of contract extension.

The irritating thing is that nothing about our transfer situation is a big surprise for anyone and yet there still seems to be little to no progress. Maybe it’s going on in the background, however given the football worlds norm of news constantly leaking you would have thought there would be firm association with one or two players by now.

Yes, 3 or 4 weeks ago we were linked with a couple of top centre half’s however they have largely been priced out the market and things have gone worryingly quiet.

Over the last few years the club has raised very little by selling players.

Looking at Transfer Market over the last 6 years, Palace have received £181.14m - £150m of that was from the sales of Wan Bissaka, Sorloth, Olise and Andersen.

Over the same period the club spent £324.9m

All the current signs point to the majority of this summers transfer budget being dictated by player sales, specifically Guehi and Eze. And as of this moment we haven't received a penny. Like it or not, that would have an impact on our transfer activity - or should I say lack of. When I flagged this a few weeks ago there were some that dismissed this as just an excuse. Quite why anybody would think that the club were deliberately setting out to upset the manager and not strengthen the squad in readiness for the coming season, I don't know.

I believe the club have been actively looking for players but they have to be the right players and at the right price. I've no doubt that Diomande would have been a good replacement for Guehi. But Guehi's still here and Diomande's release clause is now 80m Euros. Guessand from Nice was another one that got away when Villa effectively gazumped us.

There's no denying that off the field it's been a disappointing summer in many respects.

Now I think we need Guehi and Eze situations sorted so we can move on.

Let's hope we see a positive shift over the next couple of weeks.

We will never know what is going on in the background but the noises we are hearing are not good. Where we are today, I hope they both stay. We will badly need them this season. But I have to say our transfer management is not sounding great.
