Marc Guéhi

We all know what Glasner said about keeping Marc. Let us not forget though that the player did not sign an extension. For a club like Palace, we don't have big cash, to lose a 35-40m player for free next year it is just too much. We needed to sell and everyone knows it. All the blame here on Parish but there was nothing he could do. A million percent he offered Marc and his agent all sorts of deals to extend, improve contract etc. All were clearly turned down. Marc, like Eze, behaved impeccably this month, but in the end they want their dream moves. We as fans might be annoyed but that's the food chain.
Now in the next few hours we find the truth. We have to get a serious level replacement in. Igor and Canvot are not the Guehi replacement. Pavlovic or Diomande, something of that level only is required.
Luckily we only have to wait a few hours to find out.

Appreciate the 15 points he gave me for my fantasy team last night, but I fear that is about the same amount of points we'll lose by not having him.

In the last 2 summer windows, we lost Zaha and Olise, then went on to be a better team. There is no doubt Glasner and Parish did everything they could to convince Guehi to stay, but he was determined to leave. Yes, we could of make him honour his contract, but that never works out well.
Guehi wants to leave, Parish didn't want to sell him, but financial sense takes over emotion, it's better for the club to get £35m, than nothing.
Blaming Parish and the board is pointless, it's Guehi if anyone to blame, he didn't want to stay, but further his career and win major honours.
Liverpool will have spent £450m this window, how is that right?
Yes similar to what I wrote. This is the correct answer.

Very sorry to see him go. He's been a stalwart for our club and his professionalism knows no bounds. An all round good egg.

But, hey, we're 8th in the league and about to embark on our first international adventure. We managed without him before and our manager will ensure we do well without him in future.

We've got no idea what went on at Selhurst during the past few hours, but I feel certain that Ollie, who is an intelligent chap who demonstrates integrity will keep to his contract, and Mr P came to a mutually acceptable agreement about Marc's future. Oh, to be a fly on the wall.

If this move does go ahead and we lose MG immediately, then the squad looks very inexperienced all of a sudden.

Ward retired last year; Eze and now the captain and lynchpin MG will have moved on in a few months.

Apart from Hughes (you could argue Clyne, Lerma and Mitchell) there is precious little league experience.

I hope this does not become a problem if we go on a rough trot of results because it can no longer be fixed outside transfer windows.
Has he kept fit? He is a free agent

How could he know? He was under contract. If Parish hadn't signed him off he would still be here. Honouring your contract is hardly holding the club to ransom. The club have known his intentions for ages so had plenty of time to prepare for it
Ok maybe I used the wrong wording. But if he wanted to leave he should have said so a long time before now to give the management time to get in a suitable replacement. But all along he has stated that he is commited.

We have known since at least January he was leaving. 🤷🏻‍♂️ No replacement in 🤷🏻‍♂️
Waiting till now can only be to get more money from Liverpool.

I'd have thought that it was a certainty that they would eventually cave and pay what we were asking. They knew we wanted to sell.

So in that case, it's Liverpool's greed that has led to this. They could easily have paid £20 million more, and I bet they would have, had Guehi not wanted a move to only one club.

Looks like he's gone. Quite disappointed in MG to be honest. He was completely committed up until yesterday and now he's off. I understand why he's leaving but he must have known yesterday and didn't even make any gesture to the fans at the end of the match.
He's pretty much held us to ransom as explained on SSN as he has more than likely stated that he will not sign a new contract so the we've had to accept an offer rather than losing him for nothing at the end of the season. 35mil is absolute robbery when you look at the amount players are going for now.
Hoping that we get in Pavlovic from AC Milan as his replacement as Igor Julio is not gonna be a good replacement.
I feel your pain but we could have sold Guehi last season and didn’t. If a really good player won’t extend then he won’t extend.

Sorry, but that's totally incorrect.

He has always said that he would not sign another contract. I'm surprised that fact has escaped you.

The club have had ample time to find a replacement, but have left it so late in the day as to piss off the manager.

In the meantime Marc has shown 100% commitment and been a total credit to himself.

I think Liverpool have held all the cards here. Of course we should have had a replacement in place but that is definitely easier said than done. I don't think we can just be in the market for a defender for £20-£30M without selling first. Liverpool have waited until the last minute before making their offer, putting us in a very difficult position. It's what they do - tap the player up, knowing that there's no way a player is going to turn them down. We are the left feeding from the scraps that are available.

I am sure we would all be blaming Parish if he spent £25M on a defender in advance to replace Marc Guehi, only for the deal with Liverpool to fall through and we then fall foul of the PSR.

We are not the only club that are having trouble recruiting and it's very much expected when you try and compete in the same playground as the big boys. Newcastle are in the same boat looking to replace Isak last minute, and Brentford are selling the family jewels.

It's also been reported over the past couple of weeks that he was not pushing for a move. There are no innocent parties in this saga. Guehi, Parish and the board should have prepared for this.

Yes. And I think that will continue to be the point OG will make.

As an aside, Liverpool do have a great record against us in the transfer market. We have purchased players off them for ridiculous money, and they come along and get our marquee player for peanuts.
