Manchester United vs. Crystal Palace match thread

I have a genuine question.

Why do all refs all appear to be from the north? I am yet to hear one speak without sounding like they are from the north of our great lands?
Tim Robinson is from the 'South'. He started his refereeing career in the Sussex Leagues.
I know some gentleman who was refereeing a game and Tim was his linesman.

By the time Cunha crosses the line Max had lifted his hand and was barely touching the player. The correct decision was foul outside the box and yellow card. Only a ref born and living in Manchester would give anything else. As for VAR, it will never be any use for fair play all the time it is manned by the referee's union. The FA and Premier League know where the ref's are from so they are complicit.

From Howard Webb… doesn’t help us now though does it.

Speaking on the latest episode of *Match Officials Mic’d Up*, Webb revealed the VAR audio, which captured the officials’ deliberations. In the transcript, Kavanagh is heard saying, “Contact starts outside, but he’s still holding him in the box. That’s a pen and red.” VAR Bankes concurs: “Agreed, it’s sustained contact, denying the opportunity.” However, Webb argued that the decision was flawed. “This wasn’t worth a red card,” Webb stated. “The foul began outside the area, and the continuation wasn’t sufficient to warrant a penalty. It should have been a free-kick and perhaps a yellow at most. Chris Kavanagh misjudged the severity on-field, and VAR failed to correct it properly. We’re frustrated because this altered the game’s outcome unfairly.”

Upon review, it should have been a yellow card just outside the box, and a talking-to warning (if not a card) to Cunha for diving.

Harry McGuire should be ashamed of himself, but he won't be.

That’s odd, Willo said the ref and VAR got it right.

I thought we were good value to be leading at halftime.

No question of a doubt that the shocking decision to give a penalty and Red ruined any chance we had. But that’s what Man U get at Old Trafford.

No idea why we didn’t give Devenny a go instead of Pino. We were crying out for a natural left footed player to support T. Pino just kept giving the ball away.

Might help with appeal?

In my humble opinion the award of a penalty and the brandishing of a 'Red' were correct decisions.
I would expect that response from you Willo, along with all your other Brighton mates .

I cant believe the talk on the radio and on the post match SS coverage doesn't have anyone in outrage about the decision? Some are mentioning the Igor Tudor foul in the Spurs game as being wrong (I guess it gets coverage because it was similar to the Arsenal one last week)

No one seems to be making a case for Lacoix foul being beyond ridiculous. He really doesn't actually do anything. I keep watching it and the more I watch it the more pissed off I get.

So my suggestion for VAR would be that it is operated by ex professional players who understand the game better than any refs can. It keeps ex players in the game and I would trust their judgment better when it comes to subjective decisions like today’s.

Our team from last season would probably have comfortably won that game.
We are not stronger in any department at present, and in a few cases we are worse.

That's the sad new reality of where we are.

I have not reviewed the incident multiple times, only in real time, then when it was discussed.
From my perspective, the initial contact was outside the area but Lacroix had his hand on Cunha's shoulder as he entered the area.
I can understand why those who believe the foul was committed outside the box, but there was insufficient contact inside to warrant a penalty, conclude a Yellow was sufficient punishment.

Rubbish, Willo said it was the correct decision

That’s because the sky paymasters have a narrative to stick too, and anyone not on the same page gets their p45.

I would also suggest that a 1 minute time frame is applied. Maximum. If it takes longer it’s not clear and obvious. Honestly these c**** would make making a cup of tea complicated.

We were leading that game, and were looking good for at least a point before we were cheated.
Yes the team is not as strong as last season, but get over it.

For the first 40 mins we looked like said team .
That first half was like the Everton game when our run ended .
