Main Stand redevelopment thread

The current proposed stand is like Trump's White House ballroom; it's not what is actually required, it's what the blokes in charge want to satisfy their egos and vanity. We could build a realistic two-tier stand to match the Holmesdale to seat 8-9,000 at half the cost of the £200,000,000 space-ship (costs are bound to rise even more) and in half the time. That way we wouldn't bankrupt the club, still have money to spend on the team, and shock-of-shocks have two stands that actually have a co-ordinated look. It really is time for wishful thinking to stop and the realistic long term good of the club and its fans made the priority.

Chances are ex hib, with the Old Stand gone and the shiny new one in place, you will be looking at the Arthur feeling the same as you do now.......and then the WH, which don't forget will have been reduced by half a dozen rows when the New Old Stand goes up.
There is no doubt Selhurst Park is already very Old Fashioned.....all of it.

I couldn't agree less.

The new stand needs to be impressive precisely because the rest of the ground isn't. It also needs to house the whole infrastructure of the club.
It will represent the image of the club to investors, sponsors, players, clients and new fans.
We have a tough job competing in the big league as it is without some Mickey Mouse compromise of a new stand.
Hopefully, the new stand will be just the beginning of a long term upgrade to make Selhurst Park as good as it can be.
Personally, I think the biggest problem is where the ground is. There is nowhere to park, and South Norwood seems to get worse year after year, if that is possible.

If we have made one mistake, it is not finding a new site for a new stadium. We are told that it is impossible, but I'm not sure if I believe in impossible when big money becomes involved.

No, the Arthur's not perfect but it's OK, the WH gives a cr*p view but it looks OK and there may be a possibility of building above it, and the Holmesdale is great, I'd put up with the other two stands for a long time but not the main stand, it is so two bob and should have gone out with old money.
 
Craven cottage is similar to what ours would be, one massive new state of the art stand and the rest as it has been for years.
I was in there when we played them in the cup last year, what a place to watch football.
Not interested in moving grounds, not interested in some shiney bowl in Godstone or somewhere like that. .
‘Build it and they will come’, then chill for a couple of years and if the ground is regularly full, we move onto the next stand.

I am currently in the lower holmesdale. I’d like to see an option with the new stand, where people could up grade their season tickets, when the availability is there, doubt the new stand would be Choca for season tickets. Something like pay £100 get a seat in the new stand for a game and the club can re sell your season ticket, for that game.
Then I could have some corporate like experiences throughout the season, for the less lively games, (drink a cold beer, for once, in the ground) and Lewis Dunk would still be able to hear me calling him a c++t, when we play them.

So you agree with building a massive flashy stand that dwarfs the rest of the ground but then say that the problem is where the ground is. Spending £200 million+ on just one stand that's in the wrong place doesn't sound very sensible to me. Are all the new corporate type customers that Parish wants to attract to his Disneyland castle going to be happy about not being able to park their Bentleys within 3 miles of the ground?

The idea of moving to another location has been dismissed. Any future U turn on that would take years to realise.
The current design has already taken years, and we still don't have spades in the ground.
We need more capacity and income as soon as possible. We can't wait another decade.

I wouldn't rule out moving in the future, and I would expect that the £200 million would be paid off before any new ground saw the light of day. That would probably cost a billion at today's prices.

Parking is an issue for fans at Selhurst, but there is no guarantee that a new ground would be much better if it was in South London. I'm sure there will be room for a few Bentleys under the Holmesdale.
 
I read these threads with interest, and the Main stand mostly to see what different folk are saying..! A new main stand just needs to be built as per plans. It will look amazing and getting 33k fans in will be a major improvement. Then CPFC then need to refurb the AW. It cannot be raised any higher because of the number of terraced houses along park road, but it can be given a new roof, better facilities, access into it etc. my missus went in the AW once…and never again! The main issue with the WH is Sainsbury’s. If there was anyway CPFC could buy the whole supermarket site and carpark - it would dramatically increase the chance of something similar to the Holmesdale being able to be built. With even fewer seats likely to be in WH when new main stand built it is gonna look even more stupid! But I think with 1 new stand built it might speed up the rest of Selhurst…here’s hoping!

If the project is starting in January does anyone know who the main contractor is.
Given the long lead time of several weeks needed to procure both men and materials for such a large build surprised SP has not issued a statement

Lendlease was announced some time ago.
 
Are we still looking at an up and over build design where the old stand remains open while they build up and over it. If not, what will main stand season ticket holders do for the years while it gets built (Fulham was four years for their new shiny riverside stand.) ?
