Main Stand redevelopment thread

Been a lot of talk about changing rooms moving to under the Holmesdale so work can start in January. My question is has any one seen this happening work going on or any pictures. Or it could be SP is blowing smoke up our ar..s again
To be fair, this project has been blighted by planning issues, Covid, compulsory house purchases, Sainsbury, and rocketing costs for materials worldwide. Despite all that Parish has kept going even having the thing redesigned in steel when concrete became more expensive! I don’t think he’s blowing smoke up anyone’s arse. It’s happening and we’ll see signs of that in a couple of months.

Away teams have been using a new but temporary dressing room that was made under the Holmesdale Road Stand since the start of the season. Home team Dressing room area is said to also be moving into the Holmesdale from January.
This will then remain the case until the New Main Stand is completed where both dressing rooms will exit onto the pitch where the dugouts currently are.

Thanks for the info glad to hear things are going foward. Hard to judge from over here

I went on a stadium tour. Absolutely nothing happening. The changing room and all these things have been mentioned for years. Things like Covid, inflation etc have affected everyone and a) despite this otber clubs have managed to start and finish projects in the time we’ve been talking about ours and b) it’s our own fault as we delayed it so much that the cost has gone up.

I have zero faith anything will start in January. What I believe will happen is some half baked statement saying how works will definitely start in the off season before them not happening again.

everton new stadium idea was started in 1996 then 2001 and 2006 finally in 2018 it was agreed new location 2021 the ground was broken to start , so unless your a very rich club it takes time

Tempted to take a stadium tour. Any thoughts on whether before or after Christmas.
I doubt you will get one till next year. They are probably sold out.

What building work could you see on the tour? You don't go under the Holmesdale.

There is nothing to see outside because the stand itself hasn't started.

Excuses.

Covid didn't change that much in construction game people still worked as normal.

Yes costs increased but that is how things work they change daily anyway (Look at Liverpool who has finished there stand the price increased but they still finished it)

SP didn't need to redesign anything too much messing about he did the same with Academy which only got sorted because of Tex.

They should have knocked the thing down and rebuilt it.

That project is a lot more complex and had many parties involved plus remember Everton was having $$$ issues.

Your dates are well off if you was to stick with the date they had found the location you are looking at around 10 years ago and a designer was appointed in 2020 this year it opened (This really shows up how Palace have been very poor not able to even refit one stand)

The stadium had a budget of around 500m but ended up costing closer to around. 800m.

And Arron Wan Bissaka.

I'm not concerned about the new stand. It will get built. The current stand is a relic.
What bothers me more is the lack of chatter about redeveloping the rest of the ground.
Yes, we can take away the stanchions and camera gantry in the Arthur Waite, but that really is small potatoes.
The White Horse will hold less than 2k when it is reduced. That really isn't acceptable for a Premier League club in London.
We need 40k minimum capacity and better facilities to be in the top ten.

I asked the tour guide who worked for the club. No work started was the answer.

Fulham, Luton, Brentford, Liverpool, Tottenham. All either built new stands or grounds since we first said we’d do ours. Just need to accept the board have dropped the ball/have no ability to progress with the project. It’s the constant carrot dangling and goalposts moving I don’t like.

Case in point here’s the link to our own page update from this time last year. Crystal Palace Main Stand redevelopment - Crystal Palace F.C.

And we had same year before and year before that. So forgive me if I think January is yet another load of nonsense that won’t happen

Work has been done under the Holmesdale. No one has claimed anything else has been done except for installing a power plant. I don't know about the new offices behind the Whitehorse.
If work on the foundations doesn't materialise in January, then it would be reasonable to ask questions.

Just look at that page on our own site and go back to the beginning on it. Tell me we haven't been promised more than has been delivered so far. And that it's going at slower pace than other similar projects. In January, I fully expect there to be another thing that further delays works that means works will (definitely this time) start in the summer.

You will find out in a few weeks.

Here is the truth according to various AI sources which would suggest you are incorrect in your assertion that the club have dropped the ball. Planning etc are the reason the project has only just started and it has started according to the club.

Nice post. Clear that long timelines aren't unique to us, and the notion that other clubs just throw up new stadiums in a coupe of years isnt true
