Let's Kick Politics out of Football

from Wikipedia.....
"In December 2024, the Football Association indicated that they would contact Guéhi to remind him religious messaging is banned from equipment, after he played with "I love Jesus" handwritten over the rainbow-coloured captain's armband as part of Stonewall's Rainbow Laces campaign to support LGBTQ+ issues. In spite of the warning, Guéhi further risked FA charges by writing "Jesus loves you" over his rainbow armband in Palace's following game. Guéhi's father defended him from criticism, accusing the LGBT community of "trying to impose on others what they believe in"

Would this be a case of "some official messaging is acceptable. Your messaging ? not so much ?"

I'm so proud of both Marc and Wilf for the stands they took.

Like everything else: there are apparently suitable politics in football but other views are not acceptable. There is no debate; there is either censorship or punishment for opposing views - despite the fact that football fans have never been asked in any meaningful way. Clearly, nor have the players.

Wasn't the kneeling originally because it was being kneeled upon that supposedly killed George Floyd? (Even though the post mortem actually showed it was fentanyl)

Don't get me wrong, because I agree it was stupid to introduce taking the knee at football, either way.
And it wouldn't surprise me if the symbolism wasn't conveniently manipulated in the way you describe.
That was the most bizarre part of it all - it was actually started by an NFL player who instead of standing for the US national anthem, he took a knee.
Why did the Premier League take this display on?!

Wardy and quite a few of our boys take the knee pre match for religious reasons.

Except that various religions try to impose their beliefs on people all the time. For example, Islam has no time for non believers and the Catholic church has plenty of previous for intolerance.

Many around the world are born into a religion without choice.

How is that any better than making people wear rainbow armbands?

It's all absurd.

Won't be long until VAR is being labeled racist. The black players are shown as white when it goes to var for offsides. 🤷🏻‍♂️

Isnt it nice to watch a World Cup ? especially without getting a lecture on the importance of recycling my plastics ?
My local tip at Earlswood used to recycle plastic. China stopped taking it; so there was no money in it to recycle anymore.

It now all goes to landfill. Personally they must have to burn our rubbish. I can't see how you can keep putting it in the ground.

I thought the kneeling was cos that american footy player did it during their national anthem.

Israel...Ireland....bump

nobody voted for Politics to interfere with football. Most of the feckers going nuts about the match above are Antifa purple hair women who never even watch the football.

Most of the football players are working class lads, uneducated & unfamiliar about the Balfour declaration, the Likud Party, the Knesset, & the differences between Sephardic and Hasidic Jews. Yet they are now thought to be opinion-leaders by telling all the rest of us what to think ? Giving a morality lesson to a 3 thousand year old War-zone.

Absolutely. They should leave it to actors and singers who are all leading authorities on global geopolitics.

Or we could blame the main stream media for giving stronger credence to the political voice of Timmy Mallett or Christopher Biggins (random names chosen) than any other person with an opinion.

As much as I hate some of the ways in which the lovvies have presented their opinions, they are entitled to them and we should be angry that they are repeated and validated by news outlets.
