Reason they never made it to the first case is that the legal team, for some reason known to the, chose not to call them. That is their decision but given the nature of the technical evidence against her I would have demanded that be tested.

I have to say, with this turn of events (link below), it wouldn't surprise me if Letby's team went straight for the 'unsafe conviction' route to get her released.
This on the face of it, is quite shocking, that it's even considered possible that institutional failures were covered by bullying a staff member into a position of potential guilt.
But the similarities with the Post Office scandal are there to see.

Det Supt Paul Hughes said: "As our enquiries have continued, the scope of the investigation has now widened to also include gross negligence manslaughter."
An undisclosed number of suspects have been notified by the force, he added, before stressing that "no arrests or charges have yet been made".
The senior investigating officer said: "This is a separate offence to corporate manslaughter and focuses on the grossly negligent action or inaction of individuals.

It’s the usual rubbish that follows high profile trials. There is ALWAYS someone willing to run a counter argument that they ‘got it wrong’ and the conviction is unsafe. It’s not, this is nothing new and they’ve not presented anything that changes the guilty verdicts on all counts. I take it you read the statement from the families solicitors issued in response to this?

Try her again and the verdict will be the same. 12 ordinary people knew what the right verdict was and 12 more will do the same.

I think it probably should have, at very least a retrial. Simply as there has obviously been gross failings within the hospital. Scapegoat? I don’t know but in the name of justice a retrial.

There has always been something suspicious about this case. We are seeing, every day almost, another scandal regarding the NHS. Maternity services fail in in many parts of the country etc. The evidence needs to be tested again.

This has NOTHNG to do with Letby’s convictions, all of which are as safe as houses. This is to do with the fact that more could have and should’ve been done to stop Letby sooner.
The Hospitals trust / executives were negligent in their handling of this whole thing. Deaths could have been prevented by dealing with Letby sooner and this is the thrust of this enquiry.
