If we don’t have them what we do need is some pace and power in attack. Yesterday we had a few promising situations where a more direct and quicker player would have made them into shots on goal.

I noticed in the first half Tomiyashu was doing a lot of directing and organising. He also looks the most comfortable on the ball of our centre-backs. If he can stay fit (a big if), he might push to be the first choice for that central position in the back three.
Overall, I thought it was a really positive performance going into the three-week break. We kept DCL out of the game (even his big chance looked offside to me) and dealt with their only significant threat, which was the aerial barrage of long throws that undid us last season. Even Leeds' fans agreed we probably deserved the win, although there wasn't a lot in it.

Yes, Tomayasu did a lot of organising. Richards looked better than of late and Canvot had a good game with several ball carrying bursts forward like Marc Guehi used to do. Basically everybody played well apart from Pino who was average and Strand Larsson who was really poor.

He's looked terrible all season, not surprised he was benched. The new signing Affengruber (who we were linked with) has looked instantly more composed. Anderson did play a superb pass to assist in the League Cup but i think Palace can conclude they sold him at the perfect moment.

Two more we made nice profits on and look to have sold at the right time. Yes, I know we didn't bring in a ready-made replacement for Lacroix, but ultimately the defensive line is about how the players gel and work together, something that our back line did well yesterday.

I judge a manager by how well they sort out a struggling defence and that was a lot better yesterday.

I did a midweek Port Vale away. We lost 4-1 and George Graham got sent off for us - it was a long time ago. Got back to London and had to wait for the tubes to start running before going straight to work. Similar time losing 2-1 at Tranmere on a Friday night, only didn't have work the next day.

Our 2 Japanese players have more positional sense and game intelligence than the rest of the team put together. Kamada dropped back into midfield when required, blocks passing lanes without overcommiting and Tomiyasu can organise an inexperienced back line.
Olise was never gonna be a flop but Munoz is now half a yard slower and Lacroix is not as good as many of the forum thought. Wright, Sansom and Olise and to some extent Eze and Guehi are different class.
