Leeds v Crystal Palace Match Thread

How many mid table teams that have qualified for Europe over the years have then struggled in the league. We are not the first and will not be the last.
Yes I would have loved us to splash the cash and strengthen the squad but we simply do not have the money. Football is a business and as a business you have to be sustainable.
The problem with all us fans is that we think we could do better!
It is not possible for any team to enhance their squad as quickly as was required when we won the FA cup and the unexpected European campaign.
The big saving grace this season is that we are on 26 points already and will get over the line, and with a bit of luck may still do well in the cups.
We simply can’t have it all and should remember where we have come from!
That’s not being defeatist but just realistic.
You don’t always have to splash the cash to provide a bit of depth. Free transfers, older players with a couple of seasons left in them could have been found to bolster the squad, but we chose not to.

Poor players look shot against a bang average side.

We lack any depth and that can be laid at the door of one person Mr Parish.

I suggest we simply don't turn up on Tuesday and give Arsenal a walk over as if we play like this we will be annailated

A lot of a players have had their worst games of this season.

We all know they are much better than this because the form for over a year has demonstrated that.

I expect this performance to be a one off, but there's no doubt that injuries have had a major effect, particularly when the replacements are not as good.

We have also been down the road of older players on free transfers and high wages. This didn’t work and we have rightfully moved away from that model.
I would agree that we should have looked at loans but for whatever reason we didn’t.

Uche has to start. He has done more in the time he has played the last few games than Eddie and JP combined. He is raw but at least he looking to get at them

What this shows is the lack of physicality we have when Munoz and Sarr aren’t there. Both are quick, strong and good in the air. The likes of Nketiah, Pino and Wharton are a bit lightweight so need some pace and power around them.
TBF, I'm not quite sure if even these 2 would have made the difference. All players have physical limits. I fear more the missing winter-break. Meet the guys in Europe after they have recharged, healed their injuries and another dream could be smashed comes February. We also had the international breaks in former season to get back to power. Now most of our players are on international duty etc.

It may not be all Parish, we didn't have the new Director of Football in place in time for the summer and Parish stated we had to sell before we had the money to buy without the owners putting their hands in their pockets (apparently) and that happened late in the window with Eze.

It would have been the perfect time to back OG but that isn't just Parish, our three billionaire owners chose not to advance the cash either to allow us to operate in the market early in the summer.

I guess factors like the new stand and being booted out of the Europa would also be cited as reasons by the board.

Mateta should have been substituted a long time ago.
This is an embarrassing performance, our worst of the season.
If, as suggested, Mateta is carrying a knee problem, well then that is poor management. Or it could be that Mateta has reverted to his early days under Roy.
