Leeds v Crystal Palace Match Thread

He score nearly 150 goals between those clubs, however I believe it was Keegan and Hoddle who questioned his chances to goal ratio.
Andy Cole never warmed up on the pitch prior to the game and at Man Utd he used to warm up on his own in a room close to the dressing room.
hmmmm

Those were our worst years. There used to be maybe 5000-8000.
agreed, our time in the old Third Division was better, good crowds and strangely a better side than the one a division above, our old stars were a shadow by then. When we have a few setbacks now I just remind myself of those turgid draws v Shrewsbury and the like.

no but we were tipped by a lot of pundits to go down that season given our general circumstances, and you're splitting hairs old boy, Charlton used to start well and drop, we generally start poorly and rise, this season I predict we go up, down a bit, then up again.👍
I know that one! Up down flying around looping the loop and defying the ground- the magnificent men in their flying machines. All exhibitionist stuff. 👍

I have said many times JPM is not a prolific striker. Its no coincidence that he only scores regularly when our attacking midfielders are laying on chance after chance for him. Even then he needs 3 chances to score 1 goal. Not a great return.
If JPM was sold his contribution would not be missed if we signed a striker that can finish.
What are the chances? We paid a boatload of cash for Nketiah who provides very little other than goals and he has never scored more than five in a league season

very good points, but I think we were OK first half, 63% possession after 30 min, good approach play, lovely turns from Pino and Wharton to set up chances but not clicking in the final third - again! They picked us off and we got our marking all wrong on their throws and another severe case of second half syndrome, Lerma replacing Hughes led us to losing control in midfield, Mateta should have come off earlier, but we nearly got it back to 2-3 before Sosa screwed up. This team were rested so tiredness/Europe is no excuse - we were due a poor performance, it happens, a lot of posters are predicting a sudden downward trend. We can bounce back with returning players and a couple of additions, but is there a two-week winter break this year cos this team does need freshening up? Also I'm starting to think it might be time to consider cashing in on Mateta, he may have peaked and we could get silly money atm, maybe even enough to get a reliable striker - which don't come cheap of course.
If, as I suspect, Mateta is being assisted by painkillers at the moment, I would very much doubt there would be any buyers until his knee issue is resolved. There are not many clubs who specialise in buying injured players, other than ourselves of course.

We all need them plus a very poor memory.

What was he stretching?

Leeds aren't a rubbish team, they have found a formation that suits them. They totally outplayed us, roughed up Mateta early on and got away with it, he didn't get a kick after that. They had more desire and won every loose ball, which is our strength usually. They ran the midfield with Wharton and Hughes chasing shadows.
Again rubbish. If we'd had a referee that gave us a free kick every time they fouled us and didn't give us a yellow card every time a Leeds player went down in a stiff breeze it would not have looked so one sided in midfield.
You want to heap praise on a dirty Championship team thats been flirting with relegation from day 1? Thats your opinion and you are entitled to it. My opinion, which I am entitled to is we made them look good and gifted them an easy win through poor defending, non competing for the ball and we were toothless up front.

How many times has N'ketiah played a full 90 minutes for Palace and how many times has JPM? Then look at goals scored from chances presented to them. N'ketiah converts far more chances to goals than JPM and thats just fact. I'm not a big fan or advocate of either of them

He doesn't though, does he?
Since Nketiah joined, he has scored 5 goals from an xG of 7.6 in the league. Over the same time period, Mateta has 21 from 23.7
There's a reason Nketiah does not play 90 minutes

I believe the xg rating system is seriously flawed, that said I think JP offers more to the team than Nketiah overall, even in this current slump. I can’t see Nketiah bullying centre backs and holding up play!

we did looping the loop and defying the ground last season, this season I think we'll be like one of those racehorses that hits a flat spot before they get into top gear
