Lacroix

One of the most unsettling things to me in all of this is how low (comparatively) the transfer fee will be (based on any articles so far). £55-£60m is all I can see but how is it NOT £70-£80m.

He is in his prime. He has 3, that's THREE years on his contract so there is no NEED to sell like there was for Guehi. He's a vice-captain and solid professional leader. Players from other clubs are going for much more than I believe their true valuation should be so why not Lacroix also?

Unless he's unhappy and wants out then I can't see why we shouldn't be firm on selling him for NO LESS than £80m. If no one can pay that then next year when he has 2 years left on his contract would be the apt time to sell, sure a lot can happen in a year... He could get injured (god forbid) or he could be a Europa league winner (just catching both extremes).

Only counter argument I can think of is that we really NEED funds to give Sage the players he wants, and Lacroix albeit great is only one man, where the money got from him could get several Sage targets (I won't even go into the wage cost difference this would create.) To that I say, It had better be Sages targets and not whoever rushed to get Johnson. Rant over, sorry and have a good day all.

Edit: Don't get me wrong £55m is ALOT of money, I'm purely thinking in comparison to the current state of the transfer market. (Imagine we were the ones selling Olise for 200mill.. sigh)

From memory, Chelski paid £70 for Forfana?

I'd be amazed if he's still with us when the new season kicks off. He's in his prime, his stock is high after a solid WC, and there is little chance we're going to be able to match the wages offered by a Chelsea or an Arsenal. It could be that someone else, like PSG, turns up at the last minute and steals him from under Chelsea's nose. The main thing is that Parish squeezes every last penny out of this deal. We're a better team with him, he still has three years on his deal, he's proven in the PL and in Europe, and he's still only 26. They paid £75 million for Fofana 4 years ago, so I'd say that sets the bar.
It would be good if Arsenal decided to gazump Chelsea as revenge for Rogers. Once Saliba is fit, though, he will be hard pressed to be first choice

Dont believe everything you read.

His 'value' on transfermarket is 55m. I suspect thats why a value in that ball park has been mentioned. Some outlets say talks have happened, others say there have been no talks but Lacroix is on their list.

Basically they have no idea what they are talking about. So take everything online with a pinch of salt.

As you said 3 year contract etc etc. I cant see any world where he goes for 50 mill

It's not a great start for him if the board are going to sell our crown gems in Sage's first month on the job also
This could very well have been agreed and approved by Sage before he signed his contract. Palace told Glasner Olise would definitely be going and Eze and/or Guehi would probably leave a year after but most if not all of the money would be reinvested. Glasner accepted that at the time. Bitched about it 6 months later but that was his problem.

My view is we will not sell unless he says clearly he wants to go. If he does I can see us asking and getting North of 70 million

Trsnsfermarkt usually quote values in Euros too so it would be a fair bit less than £55m.

The Beeb rarely run a transfer story (as opposed to their gossip column) where they're not pretty sure of their facts. I take yesterday's story as pointing to there being genuine discussions between our two clubs and that Lacroix is interested in joining the Chelski project. Yes, they're not in Europe this year but I'll be very surprised if, with Alonso at the helm, they're not in Europe next year

I read earlier Palace and Chelsea co owners met in Manhatten yesterday to discuss Lacroix. Apparently Chelsea offered £55m which was initially rejected though Palace open to further talks/Chelsea willing to go up to £60m.

These reports can often be bullshh#t but I am merely repeating what I read on Google News

They are better than some others, but still post their fair share of rubbish.

Clearly there is a chance that he'll go, but its not going to be for peanuts. He's got a good contract length, young, a full French international and Chelsea are spending big on others.

75/80m or dont even bother having the chat.

In their gossip column yes as they're simply repeating 3rd party click bait rumours, but their actual articles tend to be close to the mark.

This was one I hoped we would avoid.
He's powerfully built, strong and competitive in the air, but he always has a mistake in him.
Mistakes are frequently punished in the Premier League and we were fortunate with Lacroix and Guehi in having two defenders who didn't make too many mistakes.
For all of his potential, Canvot is still prone to errors at this stage.
Do we want to add a more experienced central defender in Disai who again is error prone?
