Apparently, according to the latest Beeb article, we're looking for a minimum of £60m. I'd rather spend part of the £35m you're suggesting we splurge on the 27yo Chalobah on another 23/24yo Lacroix type option from one of the big European leagues for say £15-20m and use the balance for strengthening in other areas. In any case, Chalobah to Como still seems to be an option and he'll get Champions League football with them.

I expect Lacroix will go. I don't see Wharton or Sarr leaving and Mateta only goes if someone wants him and is prepared to pay the price (£30m min?).
Sage knows what kind of club we are. He's seen who's gone over the last 2 years. He will almost certainly have been told who might be sold this window. Money we get for Lacroix and Mateta (if he goes) will be used to strengthen the squad., and will no doubt include players Sage has specifically asked for (Did he ask for Mingueza, I wonder?)
One thing we will lose in Lacroix is a leader. I remember his first appearance, he was already leading the huddle pre-game. He is a born leader and I believe his mentality helped galvanise the squad over the last few years. We will miss that.
Plus I’ll miss him celebrating the wins after game with the fans. Hard to create that bond with the supporters but he managed to do it rapidly.

I smell an agent, trying to get a better pay deal at Palace and give publicity to Lacroix being 'unsettled'.
You might think being at a club where winning things is a possibility , being current European Champions, might hold some enticement for the player to stay.
If a club comes in with the money, the agent will be in for a big payday.

the other 14 clubs in epl can vote to change the rules to be fairer but i'm sure, from memory, that last time they attempted to we were only club who voted against it or abstained.

I’m afraid treble the wages tells me he’ll be out the door like a bullet, obviously I don’t know him personally, but there’s not many players who would turn Chelsea down to stay at a club like us. Last summer i said something similar to you as we won the fa cup, but we just can’t compete when the big boys come calling and Eze and Guehi were gone

If talks so far have been "positive" this points to Palace deciding for one reason or another that it's time to take the profit and move on.

I'd be amazed if he's still with us when the new season kicks off. He's in his prime, his stock is high after a solid WC, and there is little chance we're going to be able to match the wages offered by a Chelsea or an Arsenal. It could be that someone else, like PSG, turns up at the last minute and steals him from under Chelsea's nose. The main thing is that Parish squeezes every last penny out of this deal. We're a better team with him, he still has three years on his deal, he's proven in the PL and in Europe, and he's still only 26. They paid £75 million for Fofana 4 years ago, so I'd say that sets the bar.

After January's spend, the books need balancing. So I think it becomes a question of which of our top assets could be sold with the minimum impact on the team. At the moment the answer to that appears to be Lacroix.
It's always disappointing to lose your best players and I can't say I'm happy about where he's going to either. Probably the only club that would be worse would be Forest.
From the players perspective he's won three trophies since joining and probably feels that in the long term his best chance of adding to those would be at Chelsea. Oh and the small matter of more money of course.
If he's the only significant departure then I'll be ok with it.

Indeed, the big boys pay far more for player to sit on the bench, or play in the reserves, than Palace can ever pay.

Bit of a depressing thought to think we need to sell a star player just in order to 'balance the books' for two players we massively overspent on and who have so far added next to nothing. Not a great sign when the expensive replacements struggle to even get in the team.
JSL I'm sure will get gametime and do ok...as he bloody well should for 55m. Johnson if he continues with his current trajectory of performances may even start to struggle to get into the match day squad.
