Lacroix

I just want to say again. We should be asking for twice what we're reportedly selling Lacroix for. Is Hobbs negotiating this? I'd say I'm not happy with what I'm hearing but that's a massive understatement.
Has anything official been posted or is it just all click bait nonsense, there is no way Parish valued Guehi st 75 (with 2 years on his contract) and values max at nearly half of that when he's got years...unless hes got a release clause!

Why would he want to go to Chelsea, they have no european football like us. Only reason must be for the money. Loyalty is a distant memory in football both from the players and clubs.
Since Dougie left we seem to pay inflated prices for average players yet our sell our best cheaply.
Sort it out SP !!
Has there ever been any loyalty? even back in the day players were just mercenaries looking for the best deal they can get
Players who do hang around at clubs for a long time, its only because no one else wants them, people always go on about Jim Cannon’s loyalty, but believe me, if a top club had come in for him when he was in his prime he would’ve been off like a shot

The odd thing is that Roma has apparently bid £20 million for Chaloboah but Chelsea are looking for closer to £30 million.
He's in his mid twenties and has got a further 2 years plus a 1 year option on his contract too, so it's not the short contract or his age which are depressing the price.
Lacroix looks undervalued by at least £25 million if the rumours are true.

The transfer market is a mystery wrapped in an enigma.
I understand that goalscorers are always at a premium, but no team can succeed without a mean defence.
Lacroix would be one of my first names on a teamsheet to achieve that aim.

The only thing I wonder is if Chalobah is part of our deal. Haven't heard it, but fifty plus Chalobah would be more realistic.

I could cope with that, chalobah made a cock up or two with us, but generally I liked him and he was pretty solid and he did weigh in with three goals as well in his short time with us

Very much agree. Our signings, certainly for the start of our Premier League journey were there purely to attempt to keep us in the division. Remember the massive number of signings in our first summer? I think with the realization that the likes of Tomkins, Sakho, Benteke, Cabaye etc etc cost a fee and high wages with no return at the end (but did help keep us in the Premier League) was not a sustainable model, and in fact caught us in a catch 22 loop that it was hard to get out of. I think the change in philosophy started with the likes of Franca, but didnt really work until we signed Eze. After that saw the signings of Olise, Wharton, Esse and more recently Canvot (Who imho was thrown in at the deep end, probably earlier than had been expected by necessity, looked dodgy, but has now grown in ability and consistency better than expected).
Up close and personal canvot it is a real unit. Makes some silly decisions but a rock when side by side with opponents.

A well reasoned piece and I accept many of the points raised.
Nonetheless, we certainly weren't a selling club in the first 9 or 10 years after returning to the Premier League.
I can only recall Bolassie being sold for significant sums.
Thus if our model was to develop players to sell, it wasn't particularly succesful for those 9 or 10 years.
Make we wonder how we managed as we still achieved mid table positions during those years and there wasn't this clamour to sell our best players as the 'only way clubs like Palace can operate.'
I know he is not flavour of the month, but the answer is Zaha

That's correct, and I don't recall fans on here saying at the time that we should sell Zaha for 'business ' reasons and reinvest the proceeds in e.g a Strand Larsen and a Johnson.
A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, or something like that.

Hence the term dicky-bird

It feels about £10 million low because it is, but were looking at it through todays point of view, when we bought Max (Summer 2024) for whatever price we paid (£18 million ?) who would have thought at that time a £47 million release clause wasn't going to be sufficient compensation to last until his contract could have been renewed / renegotiated.
If it is a release clause then agree it was part of reason why he agreed to join. However we don’t know

Loyalty is only a virtue displayed by fans and very few players. The player that comes to mind is Nigel Martyn, he stayed after many of the 90-91 team left, he was playing for us in the Championship, whilst being in the England squad, he eventually left in 96, when we were in dire states and needed the transfer fee.
Players are no different from the majority of people, they want to earn as much as they can and play/work for the best teams/companies.

We can’t upgrade replacements , I’d say the last one was Lacroix for Anderson.
The only other real success has been Sarr and he’s miles away from Olise.
Because of this , added with European football, we will probably , eventually get caught out and relegated.
Our saving grace this season is 3 poor teams have been promoted, only one promoted team went down last season (I expect Leeds/Sunderland to struggle), plus there’s a few teams with small squads that have got in Europe this year, Brighton, Bournemouth , Brentford. They will struggle with the league and Europe.

One of my children broke

collarbone playing football and had to have a metal plate installed as it was not a straightforward break. It was a period of some months before a recovery.
If Pino has a more straightforward break which does not require a plate, it is likely to be a couple of months before he can resume playing.

In more general terms I can't let last season's European win mask an indifferent league season and am surprised that some on here seem relaxed about the degradation of the quality of our squad.
At one point we had the experience of Chaloboah, Richards, Guehi and Lacroix competing for positions in the back 3.
If Lacroix leaves that leaves us with just one of those in Richards, and crossing our fingers that Riad and Canvot can quickly fill the void.
Sure we can buy a Cresswell to replace Lacroix, but frankly I'd prefer to stick with Lacroix.

Had we been able to keep the team together that finished Glasner's first season I'm pretty sure that it would have been capable of competing for a Champions League position.
We've already lost Olise, Guehi and Eze and potentially could lose Lacroix, Kamada and Mateta.

I'm realistic to know that some matters are outside of our control, but if we really are in selling mode our recruitment department is going to have to step up in it's efforts.
