Labour Party politics

What a farce that was today. They even had the gall to have a presenting officer, explaining the procedure. There was no democratic election, the presenting officer and Shabana Mahmood were laughing as they announced the results. So we have a new PM, who has been elected without a mandate ( oh yes he has if you listen to him). Can you imagine if this was the Tories or Reform. Before the left say the Tories did it, they had a proper election and all candidates were MPs. This is from someone who thinks the Tories got what they deserved. Do we deserve a PM elected on 25k votes?

When the Tories did it the amount of leftist moaning about it was off the charts.

At least the Tories had more than 1 candidate…. Oh sorry there was 1 other candidate who got 1 vote ( but the candidate voted for Burnham). At least they thought it was all a jolly jape. Lucy Powell was like a giggling schoolgirl ( apologies if this sounds sexist). What an advert for democracy

Feck em.....and I can't stand 'dogwhistle' Lucy Powell.

Stop reading the right wing rags.

He has a mandate as labour won a landslide at the last general election.

We have a parliamentary system not presidential.

If he shifts from Labour's electoral pledges then you have an argument. Until then you do not.

What was the mandate for? 'Change' as far as I remember - change for the worst I guess. Now Burnham promises more vague, pretty meaningless jargon with practically no actual policies in sight.

?

If someone is right wing......they are going to read right wing material.

What are you saying they should read?

I agree with you that Labour have the right to do this.....just as I believed the Tories did....but lots of lefties didn't. We can point out the double standards surely.

Well, we think he's going to have wealth taxes (which I find interesting as...while I see the ethical argument....I don't see how it works) and he's also made a nod towards 'hope not hate'.....which we can definitely criticise.....Also looking at his commentary we get an idea of what he considers important.....Censorship and limiting access to alternative political opinions for example.

So far we have nothing from Burnham other than rhetoric.

He now has to actually be a leader and specify policies in detail.

Personally, there is not really any point in commenting on his speech which had no detail at all.

See what his Cabinet looks like.

These hires don't fill me with optimism

So if he will stick to the manifesto pledges, will he reverse the things TTK did that were not in the manifesto, i.e increase in National Insurance charge on employer's which has directly led to business closures and increase in unemployment and welfare bill.

I doubt it.

The problem is many of the 2024 intake of MP's are simply incompetent on economic matters and driven by the ideology of wealth is bad and there is a bottomless pit of tax to be had.

The BDS is strong in this one.

I don’t. I watched the circus, the presenting officers speech was farcical and Lucy Powell, well!

Absolutely spot-on.
Labour policies are driving wealth creators out of the UK.
I have been far more strident on such matters outside of HOL with my 'Soapbox' very much in evidence !

If it does come to pass that Burnham announces plans for new oil and gas drilling in the North Sea, that will be a glimmer of sanity returning to our government.

In June 2023 Keir Starmer explicitly ruled out having an resignation honours list.

To quote, 'Tony Blair didn’t have a resignation list. It’s very hard to justify. There are other avenues for that, and I think it’s easier to be clean about this and simply say, no, I wouldn’t do it.'.

July 2026 Keir Starmer announces a list of 16 people for a seat in the House of Lords.

It sums up the man.....I must admit in my life he's the worst PM ever....and beating Johnson takes some doing.
