Labour Party politics

Hopefully for that part of Wales they didn't vote nationalist out of a distaste for immigration thinking that the nationalist party were anti immigration. As Plaid Cymru are more pro immigration than even Labour.

You get what you vote for I guess.
I think this part of Wales voted to leave the EU (despite EU funding of the much needed Heads of The Valley Road nearby), but as this by-election was for the Welsh Assembly, I am not surprised that it went to the eventual winner. With Reform showing a strong second, I think they could well win a comparable Westminster seat for the area when it comes up for grabs.

Reform had reportedly felt so confident in their potential, after spending a great deal of time, money and effort on the campaign, that they had plans in place for a celebration.
Reform were second by about 11% points.

You spend more of your time on here attacking Reform than anything else.

Reform are a right wing party that's only a few years old and not only that Labour are the party in power.

And the Tories lost their deposit.

I'd be calling Nigel to do a deal if I was Badenoch.

She won't have much bargaining power.

Not sure if there's a better metric if looking at nationalism in Scotland?

How popular these movements are or aren't wasn't the point being made.

The far left took them over long before these movements gathered momentum. Thatcher's time in office saw a rise but most of all once Blair enacted reforms that gave them a shot at power.

However, I was referring to the nature of the modern movements not popularity.

It was the nationalism bit I was mentioning in terms of decades. Labour under John Smith had some serious heavy weight politicians.

I agree about Thames but the Royal Mail is another case.

A huge part of their profit was from bills sent out by utility companies and banks etc. Today no one but the ageing get paper bills, it's only going one way.

The one price stamp service is ridiculous but no government has the guts to get rid and replace with a more sensible pricing solution based on distance.

In short the business model for Royal mail is no longer applicable regardless of who actually owns it.
I don't think I mentioned the current situation just said as it was then. Kretinsky bought the business not for the mail but the lucrative parcel delivery service which is rather big in Europe, he has share in BT and Sainsburys I believe.

Congrats to Lucy Powell, new labour deputy leader, voted in after being rejected by Sir Keir.

From her speech she sounds much more of a labour person.

It should really have been her sacking him.

😎

Just so, the uniparty are terrified of Reform, and justifiably so. Mr Willo can carp at Reform all he wants but at the moment a lot of the the UK public do not agree with him. The Conservatives have a lot to seek forgiveness for.

A woman who thinks that highlighting the mass rape of vulnerable White British girls is a dog whistle.

I'm sure Reform will welcome her appointment with the same enthusiasm.

Exactly. I bet if you asked the Royal Mail seniors they would love to ditch the letters / posties if they could.

Reform likes to present itself as the true guardian of right-of-centre politics, the party that believes in fiscal discipline, smaller government, and lower taxes. But scratch beneath the slogans and a very different picture emerges. It is one of economic confusion, populism, and ideological incoherence.

The most telling evidence comes from the ground, where theory and practice are not aligned. Councils run by Reform are already admitting they lack the fiscal flexibility to keep their own campaign promises.

Proof?

We could get Hadush Kebatu ( late, of Chelmsford Prison) to deliver them as he seems to be on a u.k. tour instead of deportation. They used to claim that porridge was funny but it doesn't live up to the standards of the Prison Service.
