Labour Party politics

2TK ran away from your last recommendation as his MPs kicked off.
Not about money or budgets for these millionaires it’s about votes!
There are big ticket things that any government could abolish and I doubt the public would even notice such as the department of Culture. The reason they don't is because it means thousands of Civil servants will lose their jobs.

Then there is our over complicated tax system. A tax expert pointed out that there are many tax schemes that over lap because when the Chancellor announces their latest gimmick they don't cancel similar schemes so the system just gets more and more complex.

An independent tax commission could be tasked with simplifying the system with a zero impact to the overall next tax take. For example it suggests you cancel 200 schemes which net 1bn in tax revenue and in return you raise income tax to compensate.

The reason they wont do that is that this provides gainful employment for Treasury civil servants and the whole accountancy sector. It suits them for it to be complicated. Less regulations, less need for staff.

Philistine!

The media are reporting a statement by Andy Burnham who is signaling a leadership challenge, presumably coming to ahead at the Labour party conference. Burnham is considered as left of centre within the party. He is forever advocating "A Northern powerhouse" policy. Starmer is considered to be right of centre. Labour is usually led by right of centre leaders.

He will have to become an MP first if he want to be leader of the Labour party.

that is easily solved, ab M.P. who backs him may well step aside, Alex Douglas Hume became Prime Minister whilst sitting in the Lords ( a noteworthy P.M. as the only one to be a first class cricketer)

Labour party rules limit candidates for the leadership to members of the House of Commons.

I've been to many a rules revision confrence and trust me where theres a will theres a way. It reminds me of the old adage Rules are meant to be broken, especially in politics I gave you Alex Douglag Hume as an example, A quick fix temorary appointment whilst the Tory Party recovered from the Profumo Affair and Harold MacMillians subsequent resignation.

Andy Burnham tells BBC Radio Manchester it's up to Labour MPs whether or not he mounts a leadership bid - this is from the much esteemed BBC.

There was no rule against Douglas-Home being leader of the Conservative Party and Prime Minister.

Not at all I love the arts but the department of culture is just red tape sitting on red tape.

Take sport:

Professional sports all have their own governing body's and they know what they are doing (more or less).

Then there is UK Sport which looks after elite athletes and Sport England which looks after grass root sports. On top al all these bodies which often overlap you have the Dept of Culture. Just how many administrators do you need?

The BBC has a charter by act of Parliament it also has oversight by OFCOM as do the other channels, they don't need another level of bureaucracy.

As for museums and art galleries they all have their own boards who know far more about what they need than the ministry of fear, sorry culture do.

It's just a virtue signalling exercise so government can say we care about sport and culture. It should be a very small team led by a junior minister for the occasional ad hoc task e.g. do we replace the TV licence.

It's origins go back to 1992 oddly enough the country bumped along quite well before then. Get rid.

Well here's something Labour needs to sort out fast.

Their answer to everything is immigration. Which is the answer to exactly nothing at all. Look at how widely this is reported.

That comment was tongue in cheek.

That is great news, i can get pie eyed collapse on the floor and enjoy a resucitation by a pro, win win!

Andy Burnham's challenge will be designed to bring Labour back to the centre ground.

Think of Harold Wilson, labour values.

Especially after the new party's confused start-up, this is very likely to be a 'runner'.

😎

Brian Wilson more like.....and like him he'll suffer from nose bleeds.....his poor treatment of the grooming gangs issue is going to latched onto big time.
