Kamada

I’m sorry but Kamada and Hughes have been key to the system Glasner plays. When you only have 2 DMs in midfield often up against 3 Kamada’s positional awareness and Hughes tackling are vital and allow Wharton to play. If you watch Kamada he is always looking to see where the opposition runners are and how best to position himself to block passes giving Wharton time to tackle, win the ball, and play telling pass. He’s not built to tackle but this aspect of his game has improved. He’s also technically good on the ball. When Hughes plays in his place we rely on the fact he is a busy player who will chase the ball and harry opponents to win the ball, more often than not making a simple pass to Wharton or our attackers.
Both have been encouraged to get forward a bit more and while neither will bang in goals from midfield on a regular basis, I’d fancy Kamada to get one before Hughes.
My guess is Parish is leaving Kamada’s contract as a decision for the new manager this summer assuming Kamada is prepared to stay.
This, all day long!!

That’s what I would do in his place. Given the views in this thread Kamada clearly has strengths and weaknesses, he needs to be with a coach who wants to play a style that suits him.

It is a sad day for football if our midfielders are instructed not to try and score. I’m not sure I fully get your point here. Are they told to pass out to the wings when they have an open shot on the edge of the box?

As the stats state, the record for both assists and goals is poor. So their passing to strikers is obviously poor as well, which kind of begs the question why don’t we just play with 5 centre backs and 5 forwards.

Its the system we've been playing for 2 years now. A system that had us win the cup. And IMO its one of hte main reasons ppl hate Kamada, because fundamentally they dont understand the system we are playing, and hence what he does.

We play with 2 x 6's. 2 defensive midfielders, they are not box-to-box players in this system. They block the center forcing attacks out wide, (where we have a wingback and CB to double up), and move the ball on quickly. Its why we (until recently) are really hard to break down.
They might venture far enough forward to get in a shooting position occasionally, but they are not breaking in to the box. They have a post to man, and they do it with discipline.

Its why our 2 man midfield cope week in week out against 3 man midfields. Because in this set up, its discipline over everything.

I don’t ever recall stating that our midfield are box to box midfielders. I said that they are often on the edge of the box because that is where they are most likely to appear in our system when we are attacking.

I’ve lost count of players in the PL that take pot shots from those positions and score the occasional goal. We have 4 players who don’t, despite appearing in decent shooting positions. Lerma and Wharton in particular have had numerous attempts but are quite simply not very good at it. Lerma normally smashes it over the bar and Wharton hits it straight at the keeper. Hughes panics as soon as he gets an opportunity and Kamada fluffs his lines despite supposedly being a converted ‘10’

Just 3 or 4 goals from these positions a season could be worth another 6 points or a cup match win but we have very little to show creatively for their presence.

Its not what they are there to do though. But I'd agree 2 goals each a season shouldn't be too much to ask.

The zero goal stat seams really stark, but when you compare them to other holding midfielders, Baleba, Rodri, Gueye, Tonali, Tielemans, Kamara, Henderson, all with zero or 1 goal, it doesn't seam so bad.

Which is exactly why I'd replace them, they lack so many other attributes, in fairness to kamada he does attempt some clever passes but 90% of them are unsuccessful, if you want to improve the team, then get a midfielder who can do both, instead of one or the other. I like Hughes aswell, he's a good honest pro who puts himself about and always gives 100% but his passing is atrocious.

I get your point but all of these score more - Tielemans has scored over 50 career goals, albeit he was more advanced at Leicester.
Gueye is now 36 so doesn't have the engine anymore but has scored a couple this season.

Lerma in his last season at Bournemouth scored 5 league goals, although he is usually a 1 or 2 a season man.

As has previously said 1 or 2 a season is not asking too much.

Tielemans is a great example, different roles, different goal outputs. Not always indicative of how good there are, more the job they are being asked to do.

Regardless I'm agreeing on a couple a season should be doable.

Well it's a shame but to be honest we're going to need a midfield rebuild this summer.

Kamada will be 30 soon, Hughes has just turned 30, Lerma is 31, Wharton probably off and doubt we'll see Doucoure again, at least nowhere near his previous level.

Assuming we keep Lerma and Hughes, selling Wharton and losing Kamada would mean a minimum of 2 younger midfielders needed depending on who takes over.

Simply not true. Hughes' passing is generally very good and often threads clever passes through to a teammate creating decent attacking chances on goal. We'd be mad to get rid of him.

His contract is up at the end of the season. He is on over £100k a week, due to being a free transfer, I doubt we want to extend at that rate, as will be 30 years old by next season.
I expect he will return to the J league or look for another free transfer and getting an inflated wage. We will be looking for a younger replacement.

as is the problem with inflated wages due to the xfer fee being built into it: 1) everyone wonders 'Why aren't I on that' and 2) when it comes to Contract renewal, the player will be offered their non-xfer-fee-inflated sum, say 50k, which Kamada will view as a pay cut, so unlikely to take it, and just repeat the xfer fee trick with another club.
Seems like the 'Coincidence' of his and OG's contracts being up on the same year means that he can justifiably say he was brought in with OG, he'll leave with him.

I agree with requiring 2, but I think Lerma may go. It’s his last chance for a decent payday so I reckon substitute Doucoure (hopefully) or Devenney for Lerma and bring in a couple of decent youngsters.

The big question is whether Wharton’s money is needed to pay for Johnson, Larsen and perhaps Guessand or whether we will be able to use that money to invest in our midfield.

I’m pretty convinced Wharton will go, it feels like the right time money wise.

As limited a footballer as he is, Lerma is such an important multi-position squad player.

At 31 I expect he'd be looking for a 2 year contract, if the money isn't unreasonable I'd 100% keep him on.

I had a feeling that Kamada's last two transfers were on a free. And I suspect it's nice to get the signing on fees and higher wages. I didn't look into Kamada - I could be wrong. It's just what I seem to remember hearing.

Yeah I mean he's absolute class so I don't want him to. But if United etc are shopping and we can get silly money then that could facilitate an overall rebuild. Also, as sublime as his passing is, if we could get a midfielder who scored a few that would help.

Spunk it all on Kees Smit if you ask me.

Somehow that just sounds so wrong.
