Judges & the ECHR

What a terrible analogy!

That thalidomide was prescribed by doctors was because it had been declared safe to use. It was only later that that it became apparent that in some circumstances it wasn’t. Which resulted in great improvements to the testing regimes for new drugs.

The diagnosis of gender dysphoria has no connection to drug testing. Nor does the support and advice offered to those who need it by the experienced and trained professionals in this field.

Don’t that though stop you, who are obviously not a trained professional in anything, declaring it to be “idiotic dogma”.
It must be a great comfort to those born with deformities to know that the 'experts' deemed the medicine that caused their condition 'safe'.
That experienced and trained professional politician of towering intellect, Foreign Secretary, David Lammy, stated that men could grow a cervix if they wished. Not being an expert in such matters, I don't know whether you buy a kit at Boots, put it on your windowsill and water it every evening. I'm sure someone of your broad knowledge, experience and wisdom could advise and give us some tips?
Mind you, Lammy and his boss don't seem so confident in their medical knowledge when asked if a woman could have a p****. They furrow their brows and tell us how complicated is all is before mumbling 'yes'.
There are some ideas so wrong that only a very intelligent person could believe in them. [Orwell]

No one knew that Thalidomide would result in birth defects until it happened, not something you can really find out in clinical trials, it was prescribed to mitigate labour pain originally. Very tragic

It will be no comfort at all but that’s not the point. The thalidomide tragedy led to a greater understanding of the need to check the possibilities in previously unconsidered scenarios. This was evidence of scientific progress not of failure. Those deeming it safe did so with the best intentions by following the guidelines in position then. If done today they would be different.

David Lammy is a politician not a clinician. He is no more qualified than you, or me, to answer dumb questions on this kind of subject. The difference is that gets asked them and is expected to answer. Fortunately before any actual policy gets determined people like Lammy do have access to specialist knowledge. Which we don’t.

The road to hell is paved with good intentions.
How qualified do you think someone has to be to answer the question of "can a man grow a cervix"? Are you prepared to a have a stab at answering it?

So answer hypothetically. Shouldn't be hard when it's acceptable to "know" what it's like to be a different gender.
It’s impossible. I have no idea on something that I have neither considered nor seems to have ever been by anyone else.

You are trying to make an analogous connection for something that seems only to have the possibility of existence in your mind with something that is real for many, if not for you.

I don’t “know” how others feel. I only know they do and that those better qualified than me accept it.

I’ll leave it there. If you want to indulge in more hyperbole carry on without me.
