I take this point entirely but, of course, your argument relies on seeing it as a net spend when these are actually two separate deals. We could just do one and not the other.

Its not obvious that we need a direct replacement for Mateta at all, given what we've spent on Nketiah and Johnson, neither of whom had had a run at centre forward.

Given our lack of creativity between the middle and final thirds, it could be argued that even if Larsen is a terrific goal scorer we won't get to see it very often. The money would surely be better spent fixing the supply lines?

I get where you are coming from but up until the last couple of awful attacking performances we were actually creating chances. It was missing them that was costing us. I take your point though. I think we have to have somebody who can lead the line, especially if we stick with Glasner and his system. It relies on a proper number 9 who can hold it up.

For me it raises more questions about why we spent a combined £65m on Nketiah and Johnson who seem like odd fits for our system but we are where ae are and a number 9 is needed.

I've not given stick for not investing. Yes we need to get players in but the right profile at the right price. Obviously it's positive that we're willing to invest a lot of money, but how anyone can be happy about spending nearly 85m on two pretty average players is not the way to go in my opinion. The fact we are spending just makes it feel like a huge missed opportunity to grow the squad properly and in all likelihood any new manager is now going to get very limited funds.

I do admit buying both Strand Larsen and Johnson seems a bit odd. Perhaps just one of them and buying a centre half would have been more balanced to our squad needs. I think we had to have a number 9 so I get Strand Larsen. Johnson is a bit of an odd buy though if we knew JPM was off. Still think he could be very good in a system that was more suited to him and with a manager who didn’t haul is players out when the show any sort of individuality or attacking intent.

Assuming JP does go for 30m we have a younger upgrade who'll do well here in my opinion

Good knowledge! If he's been carrying an injury for the last couple of months (ostensibly the reason for his poor form), then no, I shouldn't think the medical's going too well.

He can always look in at La Scala. See the sights and don't hurry back.

Any club signing a player who is carrying an injury must have a medical team similar to ours. Remember when Wharton was playing with an injury.
