As others have said if it was £50m in isolation the yes. But if it is a net spend of £15m or even £10m (depending on ad ons) the that’s decent business to replace JPM with a younger player who has a similar record and arguably more consistency.

JPM wants to go so we either cash in now and get a replacement through the door at a reasonable net spend or we let him run down contract, leave for free and have to fork out the full £50m net spend (or £30m or £40m). Either way this makes sense to do now.
 
If Mateta leaves, we'll attack differently; so Sarr and Brennan Johnson will take up the slack. Speed and finishing will be the keys, which they haven't been with JPM. I don't think JSL would be worth the price. Spend the money elsewhere.
 
Part of me thinks this is just the going rate for an even half decent premier league forward, and another part appreciates that we're probably only paying about £10-15 in a wider deal that involves Mateta leaving. Mostly though, I just think 'Jesus suffering f***, that's a huge amount of money for him. First £35m on Johnson, now this?!'

In fairness though, Newcastle were happy to pay even more than us, and Leeds were happy to pay a fair old sum as well. It's not like it's our scouting people have had some sort of totally unheralded brainwave. Other clubs seem to rate him too.

£50m is crazy, we signed him for £20 in the summer after a loan. He was great last year, absolutely crap with a stinking attitude this season when it’s not going his way. Feel for him with us being crap and no service, there’s a good prem striker in there but £30m max!

Yes Nketiah’s record isn’t even half decent and he was worth £30m
 
Hopefully were staying firm at 40M. Id be okay with paying that.

He does seem to a lot more mobile than JPM watching that video. I know these videos you shouldn't take too much from but thats clear atleast. JPM looks like hes shattered and struggling to move after 20mins nowadays.
