Jørgen Strand Larsen

You will not find a reliable, consistent striker with Premier League experience at 24 years old for less than £40m. People need to be realistic about the money behind this deal.

I appreciate you’re probably not describing Strand-Larsen as reliable and consistent but Burnley bought Ugochukwu & Broja, aged 21 & 23, this season for £25M & £21M respectively, both from Chelsea and with PL experience.

£25M - £30M is more the figure for Strand Larsen, who Wolves bought for £23M and has scored 1 goal all season.

It passed my mind that maybe just maybe the purchases of Johnson and Strand Larsen, and the departure of Mateta, is Parish preparing the ground for the next manager who he has already lined up, and not just a knee jerk reaction to our terrible form and goal scoring woes. This theory does give Parish a certain amount of credit for forward planning and relies on a good dose of optimism.

If we really have no other option than Strand-Larsen then I'd go down the toxic option of refusing Mateta the move and sticking with him. Yes he might have wanted the move but he's desperate to go to the World Cup. So he has to start performing for us, whether he's happy about it or not I don't really care. Then he can leave in the summer and we can find a more suitable replacement, who will probably be pretty average but not cost 50m.

As I've said in another post, I'd much rather invest more in other areas of the pitch as if you provide quality chances then you can make do with a half decent striker i.e Calvert-Lewin, Welbeck, Wissa (Brentford days). A club our size should not spend 50m on one player, it's a disaster waiting to happen.
Agree. £50m feels just wrong for JSL. It’s very left field for Palace. Get he did ok, last season but £50m.. I’d be very surprised indeed if Parish signs this off

I get the circa £10m net spend to replace an older, dodgy kneed Frenchman, in that sense I can understand it, doesn’t feel like there’s much head room for uplift on his sell on value though

Although both are priced high they do have proven PL experience and a good upside.

I seem to recall that Parish brought in Munoz with Glasner in the wings.

Would like to think this is the plan as both will be positive additions under the right circumstances. BUT this is Palace so maybe wishful thinking.

This makes type of sense. Knowing OG leaving , why buy these types of players to placate him?

Yes Roy Hodgson is a long term admirer of Johnson and Larsen 👍🤣

fair point.
the signings may be desired by the new man waiting in the wings, as it were?

chris coleman, waistcoat southgate or Frank..(god forbid any of those)

bearing in mind Utd will probably want a big name, Carrick would be promising.

Mateta deal is off. That will most likely cancel this deal.
Oh well. Transfer windows are hard. Deals are complicated and difficult. There are many moving parts.
Our owners and staff are working tirelessly on transfers and sometimes they don't work out.
The January window is particularly hard to navigate.
I just wrote Parish's response.

Steve Parish has emptied out the pockets of his extensive electric blue suit collection and added what he found to the loose change he found down the back of the sofa, the show must go on!
